explain to me affect vs. effect
this is one word usage/grammar rule i've never been able to keep straight. education wasn't much of a priority to me when i was younger lol, but as an adult i don't like looking like an idiot. so, first person to explain this to me in a way i can comprehend it gets repped.
thx

Affect
Affect with an a means "to influence," as in, "The arrows affected Ardvark," or "The rain affected Amy's hairdo." Affect can also mean, roughly, "to act in a way that you don't feel," as in, "She affected an air of superiority."
Effect
Effect with an e has a lot of subtle meanings as a noun, but to me the meaning "a result" seems to be at the core of all the definitions. For example, you can say, "The effect was eye-popping," or "The sound effects were amazing," or "The rain had no effect on Amy's hairdo."

affect = to produce an effect or a change, like the weather affects crops
effect = when a feeling, or a result is produced, you see something and it gives you an impression it effects you

When you affect something, you produce an effect.
"Affect" refers to the action, "effect" refers to the result.

Just another contribution to blow your minds.
Effect can be used as a verb, meaning to execute, produce, or accomplish something.
Example: The dictatorial regime quickly effected changes to the constitution that restricted the freedom of the people.
