Bodyweight Rows Vs. Traditional Barbell Rows?
How do bodyweight rows, with either an overhand/underhand grip under a barbell, compare w/ traditional barbell rows? My feet are elevated from the ground. I've attached a picture to clarify my crappy description
I have been working out seriously for about 4 yrs now and this was a nice addition to my regiment. I do them at the end of my workouts when i can only do about 10-12 clean reps, so the addition of weight is not yet necessary.
Please comment only if you've tried them
Thanks

I actually think bodyweight rows are better than BB Rows because you are actually parallel to the ground, whereas in BB Rows it's easier to cheat because you stand up more when the weight gets heavy (and this way involve more traps). But, it's hard to add weight to them when you're up to that point.

Yes, those are great as long as you can still fit in a MBing rep range without added weight.

Should i keep my back off the floor the entire time to keep constant tension, or touch the floor after every rep for a nice full ROM?

i dont like them. for some reason i cant help but over-involve my biceps when i do them.
one of the biggest positives of bb rows for me is the fact i CAN cheat on the last rep or two of the final set.

The bodyweight rows are good for like...rehab, prehab, recovery or all that. i do them to help my shoulder blades get better...but as a serious exercise? not unless you weigh a **** ton.

Only useful if weighted, and adding weight is tricky...

I prefer the BB/DB variations as well.

I've always preferred bodyweight exercises when available like weighted dips/pullups/pushups etc.
Any tips on adding weights? Maybe asking somebody to put a plate on your chest? I'd imagine that to be quite uncomfortable and maybe hard to breathe tho

Body Weight exercises are very useful & under rated.
Best to progress them in this order:
1) Use perfect form
2) increase speed of execution ( Helps recruit HTMU's)
3) Increase Range of Motion
4) Add weight
Remember Body Weight is still WEIGHT. Will you get HUGE ... No. But, you can use it to push yourself Metabolically.

if nothing else it will add some variety which is good. IMO it depends on your goals though, for bodybuilding is would not think them as useful as barbell rows. But they are good for the same kind of things clapping pushups would be good for, explosiveness and maybe endurance.
