My EX GF studied for a year for the MCAT. She had a degree in Bio & a masters in Micro biology. She has ADHD & took massive amount of ritalin to enable her to study. She took the test the first time & didn't score as well as she wanted. Studied for another year & took it again & scored LOWER than the first test!!! Even though she quit her job to study full time!
One time I went to her house in the evening after work & the gym & it was about 10:00pm, she said she had to sleep & wanted to walk me out. I had to "ask" her for a hug & she said she had to get to bed. She was a total bitch during this whole time & I hated all of it.
She eventually gave up the dream & got a job in the research field at the national istitute of health.
The whole 2 years she was studying for the MCAT she was practically a zombie & all the ritalin killed her sex drive. We broke up not long after & she always contacts me about getting back together bcus she hasn't found anyone else who would put up with all her crap.
She talked about a lot of the kids in her study group who took ritalin. Now whenever I meet a girl who has ADD/ADHD and or takes Ritalin, I'm outta there quick.

Because its just always on my mind. It's like the culmination of all my years of schooling and all my hard work hangs on those 5 hours. I know it's not SO dramatic, but its really serious business.

The way i understand it is undergrad is useful mainly to prepare you for the MCAT.... And im sure Med schools look at your undergrad GPA aswell.

you can major in whatever you want but you need to complete classes like Gen Chem, Gen Bio, O-Chem, Physics, and Calc in order to apply to med school. So if you are an english major then you would need to take all the classes that you need to graduate with a degree in english and also need to take the classes that you need in order to apply to med school.

interesting. my school has a 3 part series for all of those subjects (PHYS 1,2,3 etc.). Do you need the whole sereis or just the first part of the series?

You can do a B.A. in basket weaving and still get into med school.

The question is, are you at the top of your class in basket weaving?

You will still need to do take courses in chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, physics, and other courses that a particular med school requires as well.

The med schools want to make sure that you can handle science courses and think scientifically as well.

This is because in first year of med school, you have to take science courses...medically related science courses, biochemistry, anatomy, immunology, pathology...etc...

I had recently written the MCAT. It tested on physics, organic chemistry, chemistry, biology, physiology, basic immunology, and reading and writing.

I am also preparing my application for October 1 for Ontario med schools.

You need at least a 35+ with a 3.3 eng gpa. I had a 3.28/35, biomed. eng. major. I applied to ~25 schools, got eight interviews. Got waitlisted everywhere, only made it into one school late in the season. It's an uphill battle, but if the rest of your app is strong you can make it.
