So i was doing legs today. I am on the hammer strength leg press. It was my last set and I was going for high reps when this guy asks if he could work in and I told him I was on my last set. While I am on my last set he is playing air drums next to me weird!
Anyway at the end I said how much weight do you want left on? he replies leave it all " I have to add alot more." so for his first set he loads both sides with 45lb plates then loads each top arm with 45lb plates. Im thinking this must be one strong mother f***er. No he lifts off goes down about 2 inches (that is being generous) he does like 5 then racks it. I am amazed at the lack of ROM. Come on he is only moving his legs 2 inches, he barely left the locked out position. In order for him to complete a full rep he would have had to lower the weight another 16-18 inches. What a joke.

When he was doing the air drums, you should have started playing the air guitar and asked him if he wanted to start an "air band." Then smacked him and kicked him out of the gym.

This.
Why do people load up hundreds of pounds on the leg press, when they could be getting a far superior workout from squats?
I realize that it 'looks' cool to put 300+ pounds on there, but realize you're pushing it up a 45 degree incline, so that immediately puts the weight at 70%.

You neglect the cost of friction and wind speed into your calculation. Its actually a little closer to 68.12345678% depending on how much weight is loaded. Also its an assumption that it is EXACTLY 45 degrees from parallel.
In fact, the degree of incline could be +/- 5 degrees. This could adjust the weight by 2-3% either way. Then when you factor the altitude of the gym, this gets really complex. Gyms in the mountains of Ecuador would have different percentages than gyms in Miami.
Whether or not the machine was freshly oiled or not, might adjust your original 70% estimate by a margin of error approximately equal to PI.
Recalculate this please. The guys who claim "I did GOMAD and got fat" are just stupid. - Dave76
