Biggest keto MISTAKES people make!
I think sometimes we all make little mistakes that we don't realize we're making.. sometimes it's all trial and error an what works for each individuels body..
So post the mistakes YOU'VE made that has made progress a little slower..
-Eating too much salt! I buy these DELICIOUS salt and vinigar peanuts.. and for some reason, everytime I just get bloated and retain weight/water.
-Eating too much peanut butter.. Contratrary to popular belief.. you CAN'T eat all the peanut butter you want

I think the biggest mistake that I and others have made on keto is buying into the idea that calories no longer count and you can eat as much as you want as long as you don't eat carbs and not gain fat. That just isn't the case.

- Eating too much protein, and not enough fat.
- Too much bacon...to further that, eating raw bacon. (If I do eat it, I get sugar free, lower sodium and cook it until it's dark and crispy)
- Too much canned meats.. super convenient - I love Tonno Tuna, Canned Salmon, and Sardines.. the salt is retarded though
-Stupid uncontrolled carbups. I eat exclusively at this point.. Steel cut oatmeal and whey protein. I throw in some jelly or some raisins to make it more rewarding. I've had so many uncontrolled carbups that I think it's time I get serious and get down to business.
-Eating too many calories. You can still get fat in ketosis.
I am sure I am missing a lot but that's what I can come up with right now

Putting too much emphasis on achieving ketosis. Achieving ketosis is not necessary. This has been proven time and again--read Lyle McDonald's research.

Oh yea.. supermarket rotisserie chickens. I don't buy them anymore because I will conquer it within 15 minutes in some carb-up-like dazed black out and find myself passed out naked in the corner with chicken bones in my hair and grease soaking my shirt.
Hannaford, a local supermarket chain... makes organic farm raised chickens.. 2.2 lbs with nothing on them at all... so the label says. I called the company and it's soaked in "up to 20% solution of organic corn starch, evaporated cane juice, and sea salt". SHI*.. no wonder why I was gaining like a mother after eating them all the time..BS labels.. full disclosure is needed on labels. This would make a keto life so much easier. enough of this <1 BS.

Too much dairy and peanut butter. I used to have quite a bit in my diet (not enough to through off macros though), and was stalled out for a few weeks. I eliminated both and now the fat is pouring off.

Fruit.. I'll definitely agree to that. Too much fruit will destroy the carb up.. Fructose in general. I am gluten free and dairy free... so finding carbs that are effective is difficult. I eat mostly quinoa, steel cut oatmeal *Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free.., Brown rice, and sweet potatoes. I ate so much fruit on my second carb up it took me 15 days to get into ketosis again... that with training 4 days a week. No more fruit.

Excellent thread!
Diet soda and overdoing carbups have stalled my progress before. Also too much sodium.
I have had a hard time eliminating artificial sweetners as well...I know, shame on me!
Keep this thread going people!

Not counting calories.
Buying nuts by the kilo.
Jars of peanut butter.
Going over the top on carb-up.
Not stopping when you are not hungry.
Feeling that you have to shovel in a certain number of calories a day, regardless.
Aspartame (ok, this might be just me).
Snacking in the evening.

Why are things like peanut butter and dairy bad on cuts? I weigh and log all my food on the dailyplate to watch over my caloric intake/macros. If it fits in the macros, why would any of these cause a plateau? Anyone care to chime in? I usually have like 2 or so servings of cheese, a serving of peanut butter, and a serving of nuts on some days when i don't have any fatty cuts of meat and am force to go the tuna route.

The biggest mistake is trying to get too creative with things and trying to make things taste like they aren't keto friendly.

Not preparing and taking your food with you to work / school / whatever.
You can never assume that you will have access to the food you need out of the house.

For me, the problem with peanut butter is that a serving is just too damn small. So I measure out my 25g, and lick the spoon. Does it taste a little off? Better try another spoonful to be sure. Oh, I've left a mess on the jar, I'll just lick that off....... And then I have my 25g serving.
Dairy is rarely a problem except for the unfortunates who are sensitive to it.

Thanks! I figured it was more of a problem when not weighing/calculating calories as it is so easy to over eat (i've done it in the past, which is why i bought a scale...). And i agree a 30g serving is so small eaten alone, which is why i use it with cottage cheese to thicken the flavor into it. Cottage cheese is awesome...absorbs flavors so well.
I'm lactose intolerant, but cheeses have none to very lil lactose and i can eat it by the handfulls and face no issues. Guess i'm lucky my intolerance isn't as bad as some of those lol...(full regular cow's milk is a diff story :[)

No, if I'm going to take a greens supplement, or something like phytoberry.. I feel A LOT less guilty doing it after a hardworkout. I am afraid of the carbs and the fats together..
