Questions from a gym noob.
Thought I'd ask the pros. When I step off the tread mill I get a 30 to 45 second head rush, kinda dizzy like. My time on the machine usualy abuot 19 minutes to do a mile at about 4 miles per hour, but since my legs aint to long it makes for a pretty good pace, then slow it down for about a minute before I step off, then thers this big rush. I'm wondering if this is normal for a beginer and will pass as my body builds more time on the machine? But walking out side dont produce the headrush but my pace isnt as steady as on a machine.
Also, any body got any insight on preventing chaffing on the inside of the legs? I've tried the spandex shorts under my gym pants but I suffer from a condition known as noassatall and they tend to migrate south so my reults have been ok but not great.
These are a couple of slight problems that I need to get past, ther kinda slowing some progress, any help would be appreciated.

Overcome Everything
Well, there is the headrush feeling that feels like you are still going forward, which is normal. But then there is "dizzy" as in Lightheaded. The lightheaded type could be high blood pressure and considering your age you don't want to take any chances. I would recommend seeing a doc if this continues.
As far as chaffing thighs, my friends told me baby powder works.

You might want to try different shorts. If you go to a bicycle specialty shop they usually have really high quality spandex shorts (6 and 8 panel) and some of those guys might be able to offer advice.

always make sure you cool down for at least 5 mins before you step off the treadmill. same goes with warming up before you start the 4.0 mph walk. your heart and your body like gradual increases and decreases bc it is alot less stressful.
if the problem persists it could be a number of issues such as blood pressure or heart, which means you need to talk to your doctor before continuing w/ any exercise.
for chaffing baby powder works, as well as specialized under shorts.

Vasoline also works for chaffing.

For chaffing, try good quality bicycle shorts with no underwear.

Thanx for the input everybody, I had a doc give me a physical, done blood work, also fasted for 12 hours and done a diabetis test, every thing came back good, even my cholesterol levels were ok. And no history of blood presure problems, it check's good 90 percent of the time, hardly ever high. I talked to a guy at work who took off nearly a 100 pounds and he told me he experienced the same thing when he first started, his doc told him that when he was exercizing that his cardio vascular system was working harder that it was used to and when he finished ther was a drop in his blood presure and that drop was causing the head rush. He said that his body adjusted to the exercize after a while and the rush stopped.
As far as the chaffing I kinda wondered about the bicycle shorts, maybe a pair that has the straps that come up over the shoulders that way they would stay in place, it may look kinda funny but if it gets the job done thats the only thing that matters. And if that dont work I can get some grease from work ( it's used to grease dozers and other heavy eqipment ) that stuff WONT sweat off. If thats what it takes to get me past this bump in the road thats what I'll do, I'm tired of being fat. Thanx again ya'll.

i get the head rush to but i think its because a large volume of my blood is dedicated to my legs. AS FOR THE CHAFFING READ THIS, this was a huge problem with me so i rubbed a bit of lotion on my thighs and it also helps if you got ball stank lol. Good luck.

Your body should adjust to this soon. I wouldn't worry about it, especially with no health problems, according to your doc. This happens sometimes people. I believe it's caused by the sudden change in blood pressure. Also, cool down for 5 minutes might help.

Exercises for the abs tend to help with the light headness and drop in blood pressure.

sound advice so far also:
if you only feel light-headed on the treadmil go outside, you say that you cant keep a constant pace - i dont feel that this is important so long as you are not training for a long distance running event
as for chaffing, apply vasoline/baby powder, i reccommend wearing the lycra shorts without boxers on.
as you loose the weight the caffing will reduce significantly, if not subside all together
i dont compete against you. i compete against myself yesterday, last week, last year

I don't have experience with chaffing, my thighs aren't even close to touching while running, so I'd have to agree with the above.

op, what does your diet look like. it might have something to do with your headrush problems. Also, go get your blood pressure/cholesterol tested.

Thanx again ya'll, appreciate the input. As stated,I got a good physical before hand and had all the blood work done, as for the blood presure it's rare that it's high, got a blood presure checking what ever you call it here at home and check myself from time to time , usually good.
As far as diet, I was doing the low carb thing and took some weight off but to be honest I dont think it's what I need so I up my carbs some and feel better, it seems the low carb diet makes me a little moody. I talked with a friend that was a big gym rat and she told me that carbs play a big part in your brain funtion and it mite help to take in more, ( need all the help I can get with brain funtion ). Now I'm trying ti figure out what carbs are better, kinda thinking maybe the whole wheat mite not be as bad as the more procesed kind but aint exactly sure. Trying to learn the nutrition basics as I go.
Thanx every body for the help.
