I was curious as to whether it is necessary to have something prior to and after a session of HIIT cardio. What are your suggestions if any?

I personally like Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey. The double chocolate tastes real good. 1 scoop has 120 calories, 24 grams of protein, 3 grams of carbs and 1 of fat.
Whey protein is pretty fast absorbing. It may depend on your metabolism and bodytype( for example, an endomorph may have to wait longer than an ectomorph). I am an ecto/mesomorph and I drink mine 30 minutes before my cardio starts which includes a 10 minute drive to the gym. It may be uncomfortable if it is still swishing around in your stomach, but you do not want to wait too long. Experiment.
Post workout too may depend on metabolism. I used to drink another scoop right after cardio, but a year ago, I was feeling starved within a half hour. I take 90 minutes to eat a protein and carb meal afterwards ( to prevent a possible insulin spike), so I started taking two scoops and now I can last 90 minutes.Last edited by egoatdoor; 09-13-2009 at 10:22 AM.
