Anyone ever been a movie extra? (Serious)
There's a film being made near my house and there having movie extra signups this weekend. I've heard you do nothing but stand in the background and get paid, so im gonna give it a shot
Any tips/suggestions for those who have been a movie extra?

Yeah, I was in Dodgeball and The Longest Yard. You barely get any direction and you just stand there. Decent pay and free lunch tho. Also hot bitches....

Yes. Disney film called "Perfect Harmony" in 1991. I worked for about 2 months and got approx $1400. I was offered a margarine commercial in 1999, but didn't accept it. Had to drive a lot for very little $$$

My dad's been an extra in a few movies pretty legit. He gets a check every time they play Maverick on TV or w/e, usually like $4 haha.

I was in "Article 99" / keifer southerland walked into our cafateria, spit on the floor, and said, "how are all you losers doing tonight.'' True story.
My apt complex at poly tech in mesa az was used to film "the kindgom'. They didn't really need to do to much-because it was already hot as fuk, sandy and run down. Im sure they just had a bunch of illegals put on some drapes and sit around stirring a boiling pot or something.

Yeh brah, being an extra is easy work. I don't know about these guys saying they got paid 1000+ bucks, you usually get minimum wage or 200 bucks a day at best.

Sometimes if you're just in a big crowd they only give you free lunch and no pay. My grandma was in Rocky 2 or 3 in the crowd.

I was an extra in a low budget film with Jason Mewes that was filmed in my area last year. I never got paid because I didn't go to the original extras casting, i bumped into mewes when he came into my work and he asked me if I wanted to come hang out on the set for the day. Was a fun experience hanging out in the stars trailers and **** haha. Also met the blonde chick from dawn of the dead who gets fukd on camera. Winnar.

Try newspaper or modeling agencies.

yer i was in the 4th harry potter. pay was 50 pounds a day because i was under 16 at the time. over 16s got 90 pounds per day.
all i did was stand around all day. was decent tho. free food.
also i met daniel radcliff in the ****ters. i was going to the toilet and this guy infront holds the door open for me. its only fakin daniel radclif!! mr harry potter himself!! i took a piss rite next to him. i didnt say much tho as i was so starstruck
all the famous people hang out with the extras inbetween shoots except for the emma watson girl (or hermione) she just sat on her larry. fakin bitch. would stil plough tho

They have open casting calls all the time in LA. Many people make an OK living being an extra while they're trying to break into the biz. There's some publications that go out with information in the back of them about the casting calls. You just show up.

yeah it's the easiest work in the world aside from maybe being a video game tester. If you're into celebrities, then it's even better. I had a hard time getting extra work because of my size, they typically like average sized people for the parts. I did manage to get some networking done on a couple sets and did some modeling & such, so it's a good place to network too.
