amazing
and look at those lat wings
what is the purpose/reason/benefit of box squatting?
I think I'll give it a go as i ease back into free weight squats (lower back strain)

Most will find box squatting a touch easier on the low back....as long as you keep the descent controlled and dont crash onto the box
Box squatting forces yu to be more explosive to lift the same amount of weight compared to regular squats. The pause and slight break in tension on the box interrupts the stretch reflex that is responsible for some of the ability to lift the weight.
they are a wonderful tool to add in. It is one of 3 current squat variation I use in my training rotation

Sounds great. Just a standard flat bench for box squats right?
and Lol I can't imagine being under 500lbs, let alone repping it 13 times... If I ever rep 500 just once in my lifetime I'll be content

at your height, a standard flat bench would work just fine, should put you about parallel. I have an adjustable box that I use to vary the depth I want to hit.
my goal is to get it for 20 eventually

gotta give ya credit for ingenuity!
we used to take the aerobic steppers and stack them up until it was high enough, usually one platform and three or four risers would do it

DAMN! Most people will never be able to do 500lbs even once, ever! I hope to be able to do it just once one day and I'll be happy. You make it look easy, good motivation, thanks.

glad it's motivational for you, I love seeing lifters give it their all, even if it's not tons of weight. I remember when 500 was my max around 4 years ago.....little by little it adds up

to me it depends on width of stance used and how tall the person is. If using a medium to wide stance no lower than an inch or so past parallel. If close stance box squatting then as low as you can without your sacrum tucking under

thanks Bully! I only do one variation per workout. Next time I squat it will be close stance back squats way below parallel, no box. The third exercise is close stance front squats using a safety squat bar. The stronger we get the more important lift rotation becomes

so you just alternate those every week or how many times you squat a week?

I squat once a week, so the rotation goes. Front squats, box squats, regular squats and then it starts over the following week

a normal leg day for me is very very basic. Typically I work up to a heavy single triple or set of five then I lighten the load enough to get at least 12 reps but aim for 15-20
2 technical working sets and that's it.
The previous box squat workout I worked up to a new max of 650......it takes a LOT of warming up which is kinda work in itself for example
barx10
135x6
225x4
275x3
315x3
365x3
405x2
455x1
500x1
add belt
550x1
610x5
500x12
the stronger you get typically the fewer sets you need to invoke the growth stimulus
