Normally after. Takes some carbs before to get real energy to pump that iron.

Both brah, no flame. I take two scoops before and after my workouts, it helps jump start protein synthesis, or so I have read.

lmao bro when i say "whey protein overload", im not trying to refer to some scientific reaction your body has when you ingest to too much whey. im just saying 100 grams of whey pre and post is waaaay more then you needed
edit: while im at it... you mind explaining to me how two scoops of whey before and after helps "kick start" protein synthesis

I'll explain why PRE (I didn't say and post like you suggested) work out shakes Jump start (didn't say kick start) protein synthesis as soon as you can tell me why 100g protein in a 3 3/12 hour period is "waaay" too much. Afterall, I did ask first.

it isnt too much protein? i get anywhere from 180-250 grams in a day. i just dont see the point in making 100gs of that from whey powder. whole foods > powder any day of the week. you are trying to make it seem like im sayin if you ingest 100 grams, it wont be all digested. of course it would. all im saying is 100 grams from powder pre and post isnt necessary. if you need to use powder, have yourself a scoop before or after for the extra protein bump. id try to get the rest from foods. to each his own brotha

My pre-post looks like:
Small Meal (carbs/prot/fats) - 1-2 hours prior to gym
Shake (1 scoop of whatever you like in milk) - Just before heading out the door
Main Meal (carbs/prot/fats)
Results have been exactly what I'm looking for.

Right, I think most would agree that eating healthy is good and getting the majority of it from food sources is also preferred. The problem with this is reality.
Most dudes I know don't "meal plan". Getting the protein intake from whey is likely better than not getting it at all. yes/no?

Yes.
It's important to understand that "most dudes" you know may not meal plan, but they also won't achieve fantastic results.
That said, there's nothing wrong with being 'slightly above average' i guess, if that's your bag.

You mean the guy selling the stuff? I can't imagine why he'd say that.
For me, first thing in the morning is a must. I WAS going 1 pre 1 post but it was just causing me to bloat at the gym, Now I prefer to stick to 1 in the morning and one Post with a nice high protein diet.
I've also found that cheese on wholemeal toast seems to be a great pre workout meal for me. If I eat too much protein before a workout I don't seem to have as much energy as if I just have a high carb/fat meal.

30 Minutes before workout if it's a chest day, but do it 35 minutes before if it's a leg day. If ur leg day happens to fall on wednesday dont take any whey at all.

you see, i've heard that its good to take one before (about 30mins prior) and 1 straight after.
The reason for this is because you burn calories in your workout whether it is cardio or weights, thus meaning it could very well cancel out the calorie intake of one of your meals.
Which would mean your only have 5/6 meal calorie amounts on a gym day due to the calories you have burnt in the gym.
Make sense?
Or have i mis understood it?

WUT?
It does not matter.
More calories taken in a day, than calories burned in a day = Gain.
Less Calories taken in a day, than calories burned in a day = Loss.
If you need 3500 calories in a day, you still count what was burned of in the gym.
Obviously it is good to have food/calories before and after.
As long as you get sufficient calories both protein and carbs, 1 hour to 2 hours prior to workout you should be good. Complex carbs of course will give you longer fuel to get through your workout. Whole foods in contrast to a shake will be better for you, but a shake is better than nothing. I like to have a solid meal before workout, and a protein shake 30-35g protein, and 2 bannanas on my way home from the gym. Fast digesting Proteins, and fruit carbs that help immediatley start replacing what I have burned. It takes me about an hour to be home home showered, and sitting at the table eatting a full meal.
I suppose this is borderline Broscience discussion, so I guess it depends on where you stand.

Well that what i meant mate, just didn't clarify myself.
If you have stated you are taking in 3500 calories and do not factor in how much you are burning in the gym (lets say 300) then you wasting 300 calories because it was not factored into the daily intake.
But if it was, then thats fine....what i am trying to get at is n a gym day he should be taking in 3800 calories in this scenario as 300 will be burnt in the gym and thus he will be left with his 3500 in the end.
