Bodybuilding can be quite a lonely sport...Thanks BB.com! :)
Times I wonder,..like maybe some of you do,..why do I do this,..along with trying not to be so self absorbed I find myself having to bite my lip with social conversation and group settings, Mostly because we are a small percent.
But,..websites like this and it's forums make it much more enjoyable,..Thanks BB.com

I never wonder why as I know why I do this, to stay in shape. I never bite my lip in social conversation or group settings. True on the small percent part. Since I went on a Disney cruise and came back, I did not know there were so many outta shape individuals that were actually proud of it. I mean there was a pool that made waves via a machine.....I swore the fat people in the pool made them by moving. I honestly did not imagine the amount of talk and stares that I got. I could hear guys whispering to one another, "jeez...he's buffed out ain't he". Nice to hear...but after a while it was irritating....however when you combine me and the nice weather, I just could not keep my shirt on for some reason. ***k it, I earned this **** and these stretch marks, so while I do pushups and sit-ups and you bench press tacos and burgers by the pool......inside my mind I told them to kiss my ass...then took my shirt off. Rant over.

I just look at like.... I am so glad that I figured out what I need to do to be and stay healthy and that I wont become another 50yr old+ statistic that suddenly discovers that I have high cholestrol/blood pressure/diabetes w/ 50 lb of excess fat. Its sad that there are all these gyms with all this equipment available, but the gym is usually empty when I go.
There are some of us that will remain fit and healthy, the rest will have to figure it out when they go to sh*t.
I don't mind doing it alone if that's what I have to do. We're all here and we got'ure back!!

Gym time is my time. Honestly...I am so self absorbed in what I am doing sometimes I am rude to people...without intending to be.
I pretty much leave it all at the gym when I work out...between sets I'm fixated on what I'm going to be doing next and sometimes forget to acknowledge people that nod at me or whatever.
When I work out it's the one time of the day that I don't have to worry about anyone else but me. Alot of guys spend as much time socializing as actually lifting...which is totally fine if that's what they enjoy.
Talking and laughing and **** distracts me from what I'm there to do. Not saying my way is better...it's just what works for me.

I know.... Without bb.com, Id have no outlet for advice, support or encouragement.... Or understanding. I train at home, and I have no contact with anyone that knows anything about the sport.

I like to get in and out also. I'm more on the "People just don't understand" thing, outside the gym.
Especially true when it comes to competitions,..It's great to have a fan base,..but sometimes,..it's just you.

I am so thankful for a good trainer. It costs a bit, granted, but the motivation and direction that he provides are worth every penny! I count him as a friend. I have had very little "negative" feedback from friends or co-workers on the job. Most are very supportive, and encouraging in fact. They make fun of me for eating all the time on the job, but they're going to find something to make fun of regardless! LOL The over 35 forum provides some excellent advice, encouragement, and on occasion, some enjoyable humor too! I can as well say; Thanks bodybuilding.com!!!

I've never asked myself why I lift. Once the initial goal of dropping weight and getting conditioned was met, bodybuilding was waiting. There is something about getting underneath a bar and moving the weight. Doesn't matter what the exercise. Everybody has something in life and this is my something. I do it all for me. Win, lose or draw the end result is by my effort for my satisfaction. The only social settings I have to contend with are night school at the local college and business trips. I try hard to keep my mouth shut in both situations....ok, it doesn't always work...and as far as being lonely and entwined within this sport, not a chance. I have worked out alone at home for over 15 years. The only people I have to talk / communicate with regarding bodybuilding and nutrition are on this forum. Over the holiday weekend I went Venice Beach where the 2009 Muscle Beach BB contest was happening. As I walked down the strand to the contest, the oiled physiques and open display of hard worked bodies came into view. My blood started pumping. I took off my shirt and walked into a family of 200 other ego driven maniacs who didn't hesitate to say hello. Lonely...hell no.
