09-09-09 Beatles Remastered
Just wondering what people are thinking of the new releases. I picked up Sgt. Pepper, Yellow Submarine, and Let It Be today. I haven't had a chance to listen to them on my good system, but so far they seem to be living up to expectations. Great sound and beautiful packaging, except that you have to pinch the disks putting your finger on the playing surface to take them out of the sleeve. I'm disappointed that they used the green apple for the label of Let It Be instead of red like on my original vinyl, but that's being a little fussy. I think the added graphics and mini-documentary for each disk are great.
Anyone get the Box Set of the Mono mixes?

Still, it's the first time these historically significant recordings have been remastered. With virtually everything in contemporary music owing something to them, I would have thought there would be more interest.

"Dr. Ebbets"??
Edit: NVM. Gotta love Wikipedia:
"The official remastering of the Beatles catalogue in stereo and mono, released in September 2009, may have made bootleg remasters obsolete: Ebbetts announced that he would no longer make his versions available after he heard advanced samples of the official remasters which he judged to be superior."

Yeah I've got a little crazy with them. Target's got a good deal where you can buy any 2 of the 14 albums and get a free $5 giftcard, so I've picked up two and gone back with the gift card for another two a coupla times.
So far:
Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Revolver & Rubber Soul
Never owned any of their albums before so making up for that. Only listened to MMT so far but it sounds great.

Those are definitely on my list. Hope you're making some new discoveries and acquainting yourself with this incredible music. I've been a fan ever since that Sunday night in 1964 when they first appeared on Ed Sullivan. I'm anxious to hear All You Need Is Love and Strawberry Fields Forever from MMT. The orchestrations on those are so lush it will be nice to hear them in higher resolution for once. Let It Be and Yellow Sub were the only titles from the original releases that I didn't have already and I got those at Target as well. (The local Best Buy didn'tget them, if you can believe that. All they had were some "collectors" milk crates with one CD and a t-shirt for $30) FYE had Sgt. Pepper with a T-Shirt for only $20 so I couldn't resist. I really want the mono mixes as I hear the Fab Four were more directly involved in mixing those themselves, but the set is a little pricey at this time.

I've been listening to The Beatles since I was born pretty much, and actually have all but a couple of their albums in LP format. So it's nice to be able to hear it without all the crackles and pops from decades of use!
The horn section in All You Need is Love sounds fantastic, they really beefed it up and you can hear every little detail. Strawberry Fields sounds great too from what I remember.

Abbey Road was their best engineered record, imo, probably because it was their last. EMI's engineers really knew what they were doing and the sound of even the original CD stands up well against recent recordings. They really took the recording techniques that Les Paul invented and expanded them.

People seem to do this crap all the time in the music section. If you don't like the band the thread is about, don't go into the damn thread! What's the point of going into the thread and saying how you don't like the band or think they suck?

I wish they'd just bury that catalog forever. No need to reissue it.

We only got a total of 8 box sets at work Wednesday and sold out in the first few minutes then I spent the rest of the day being cussed out by "hardcore" (60+ year old) Beatles fans. Lulz, I took pleasure telling them "Nope, we sold out at 10:05, LOLOLOL"

Actually, I was asking for opinions on the new releases. If you don't like the Beatles, then you probably haven't heard them, and therefor have nothing to contribute. Start an I don't like the Beatles thread, and I'll not post in it. Fair enough?

Jealous. Very anxious to hear Pepper in mono. Is the White Album in that set?

What does coming into a thread and whining about how much you hate the band add to the conversation? Nothing.

I do find it difficult to understand how you can not like the Beatles once you've listened to them, if only for their contributions to contemporary music, which is unmeasurable. I think a lot of people today wouldn't care much for Les Paul's music, but without him contemporary music would be completely different. The Beatles took it to the next level, and these new recordings should reveal nuances never heard before, and expose a new generation to this timeless material. I guarantee you that you will hear things in their music that you've heard other artist copy.
OT Dweezil Zappa is doing much the same thing with his dad's music.

BTW I just got the significance of the date these remasters were released. I'm slow, I know. I only got the joke in the call letters of "WKRP Cincinnati" a few months ago.

I'm not home and haven't played any of the disks on my Magnepans yet and have only listened on my Shure earbuds, but there are details I've not heard before. Some of it sounds like it was recorded yesterday.
