PB and banana sandwiches
Get rid of protein powders, you will be getting plenty

i take a multi daily. think i still need nutrients from veggy/fruits? I've been on this diet for like the past 6 months gained about 10lbs, so my body seems to be eating up the protein...Think if i swap in a couple bananas a day ill be good? and my oatmeal is fiber enriched, so that might take care of my fiber issue, although my bowel movement seems to be fine(dont have any trouble taking a dump) Think thats enough?

I definitely, do not convert this food into fat. I am the epitome of a hard gainer lol.
I figured since the normal person who is bulking should be getting 2.0-2.5g of protein per pound. So i figured that i'd up it to around 3x since im a hardgainer, but i think imma bump down my protein to like 450ish... and then up my carbs to 500 by adding a bunch of fruits to the diet. Sound good?

Sounds good.
Don't drop it too low, like the people saying 200'ish for example. You're bulking so you're meant to be goin all out especially since you said you're a "hard gainer" (i don't agree though that you're a hard gainer, but just an under eater and/or have weak performances in the gym currently :P But that's another topic for another day and i know you aren't wanting to talk about that).
Up everything man lol You got the right idea but.advertising/self-promotion not permitted

Actually i would love to to talk about it =) Its irritating how everyone calls themselves hard gainers and then as soon as they start doing **** properly they blow up. I'm curious what do you think I'm doing wrong? I'm assuming its probably not diet cause i do get quite a bit of protein. So you probably think its my workout, so basically I do probably about 2-3 exercises per body part in the gym and two body parts a day. Think maybe im not pushing hard enough? By all means if you can identify a problem that will take me out of my hard gainer status, that would be freaking wonderful!

Well there's more to proper nutrition than just focusing on protein. Carbs and fat are just as important. Everything fits together like a puzzle. Granted sure, the calories and grams do vary person by person.
I won't comment on your training though since none of us have physically seen you train. 9 times out of 10 though the "hard gainers" are just guys who often aren't keeping close watch on what their intake is, and often think they're eating a lot more calories than they actually are.advertising/self-promotion not permitted

Sorry to come in mid conversation, but in my experience, if you have to say, "think I'm not pushing it hard enough?" then chances are... you probably aren't. If anyone told me that I wasn't "pushing it hard enough" in the gym. I would laugh in their face. I know that every set. Every rep is all out... no ifs and or buts.
It is very common for people (typically women and beginners) to think that they are indeed maxing out, but the reality is that they aren't. THe human body can perform some pretty amazing tasks... but it won't do it on its own.
Like everyone else said, take your protein down a lil' and bump up your carbs.
I also doubt that your oatmeal, albeit fiber enriched, is giving you the recommended grams of fiber per day (which for a male I think is ~ 30 grams)... so yes you need fruits and veggies (or incorporate Yummy fiber ONE choices into the mix. They are wonderful tasting)
And your multi vitimin doesn't come close to doing for your body what some fruits and veggies could do. So eat up!
Good luck.Joy is the best makeup.
Men, Please do not PM me looking to talk. I am happily engaged and am not looking for anything of the sort on here or anywhere.

Well, i think im pushing myself as hard humanly possible lol. I was just asking him if thats what HE thought was my problem. Whenever i lift, i push so hard that my face cringes into this messed up contortion and i start making these weird ass grunts lol.
Thanks for the info on the multi and the fiber i'll adjust my diet accordingly.
Nice back muscles btw, your backs more ripped then mine lol.

i'd put some money in my pocket by cutting the protein in half at least... the beauty of bulking is that all those extra carbs you are eating are super protein sparing, you actually can get away with less than on a cut since there isnt much worry of your body using it for energy... 1.5g/lb of LBM is the max anyone needs.... to make it easy just say 1g/lb of bodyweight would be plenty...

LOl, 450 is still RIDICULOUS. Even if you are talking about your own diet at 230. Arnold wouldn't even go that high. That much protein is SO EXCESSIVE and so bad for your Kidneys and liver and bones.
If you want to be an unhealthy dude, go for it, you will suffer later I promise you that. Plus you will never get good performance out of your body if your body is working that hard on eliminating waste and not getting the proper fiber, nutrients and carbs it needs. Show me any 20 something meathead who crushes 2g of protein per lb and looks like jay cutler, and I'll show you a 46 year old Randy Couture who eats less than 1g protein/lb, mostly from sources like fish, beans and nuts )which contain lots of carbs or fat) and looks better and is healthier, stronger and will whoop any of those beach boys asses.
Chill out with the protein for real. Up your intake of oats, brown rice, beans, lentils, avocado, etc.

And your wasting your money on all those protein shakes. You should have 2 per day max. I dont think the extra protein will hurt you, but its expensive, and you could get the same results from some brown rice or sweet potatoes, or oats, which are much cheaper. Try 350g protein and around 650g carbs. 2g per pound is the max you need.

Ronnie Coleman takes in about 600g of protein and he weights around 300lbs, just sayin. Hes also a natural bodybuilder not a ectomoprh/hardgainer like me so if im taking in 2.5x is that really that bad?
Do you consider ronnie unhealthy? Why is it so damaging on the body to intake this amount of protein?
But about the complex carb sources, good advice.Last edited by Glitcher; 09-08-2009 at 12:30 PM.
