I got several negs spaced out.
Many of them relate to something about kitchen or telling me to stop driving or something similar.
What the fock is wrong with some of you?

white knighting at it's best.
Op, this will only happen in the misc section and not anywhere else on the board. Do I agree with it? Not really. Is it funny? Some find it so. They're just doing it as a joke. You're not missing much in the misc anyways.
In any case, what are you cooking right now?Team GH15

Its just an on going joke in some of the sub category sections of this forum.
Kind of like walking into a comedy show when you post in the misc section especially.______________________________________________________________________________

when my location was China, you should have seen some of the **** that i caught, both here and in the misc. its like i couldn't have an opinion on anything, especially american politics, even though most of my opinions were obviously made by an american. i took my location down, and everything was kosher. you can fight the system, and hope to change about it, or you can fool the system and play in it.

Yup, for having location set as UK I used to get comments about having tea and crumpets with the queen etc. I doubt anyone's serious, if anyone was going to neg you, they'd most likely do it out of anger or distaste for a comment anyway, so it's your best bet that they'd attack the fact you're a woman. :|

It may be an ongoing joke, but they aren't entirely kidding. It's pretty easy to see that much from other things they say. Try posting in there as a woman, and you'll see what I mean. Try debating or making serious statements and you will get everything from zero respect to outright name calling and other extremely rude comments.
The thing is, I can say the same thing as a man would, and get a caustic reaction unlike a man would get had he posted it - word for word.
Go to the relationship help section and tell me many of the men here aren't immature, sexist and otherwise shallow individuals who blame women for their poor social skills (i.e.: starting relationships based on who they can get sex with, rather than getting to know someone honestly - kind of the "you get what you pay for" deal.)Last edited by sheduma; 09-07-2009 at 04:59 PM.

I actually have a harder time being disrespectful to women than to men, maybe it's because I look at being female as kind of a disability
I don't dislike someone because they are muslim, but if they believe in all the bull**** laws of sharia law or if they treat women like **** like most of the muslims i witnessed in Iraq and Afghanistan then i have no respect for them AT ALL.

I post in all the sections, and after awhile I got a feel for what to expect in the different sub-categories. Not everybody is going to be swab and debonair to the ladies heres but for the most part alot of the guys are not being malicious either.
I see where your coming from but some people roll with the punches better than others I was just trying to mediate the situation not antagonize it.______________________________________________________________________________

lawl. Unless you're a 5'11+, 200lbs+ male, you're gonna catch crap in the misc. When I first registered I had not stats/pics at all. Pretty much posted like I do now in all sections. Around Feb 2007 I decided to finally post stats/pics. At the time I was about 5'4, 95lbs, my wrestling pic didn't help any. I went from a person of lulz and info, to being an object of contempt in the misc, and it was a lot worse back then than it is now
Anyhow, I went from greeny greens to almost going red, my CP was pretty much full of red and nice little comments. The only reason I didn't go red is one day a mod repped me for something he found amusing. So since then I just kinda posted in mature sections and threads. Then started posting the misc again, over time the crap decreased. Still get the random jackass, but its ironically usually trolls.
But the bottom line is the misc is the misc, its a never ending cycle of lulz and decadency. Just take it in stride. If you're gonna post their, you're just gonna have to plow through the disrespect and stupidity.
Wow, that was longer than I expected, I'm famished, go make sammich please.

09-07-2009, 06:34 PM #28Another personality defect is ego assertion and I'll speak in this case of my own experience. I came from Los Alamos and in the early days I was using a machine in New York at 590 Madison Avenue where we merely rented time. I was still dressing in western clothes, big slash pockets, a bolo and all those things. I vaguely noticed that I was not getting as good service as other people. So I set out to measure. You came in and you waited for your turn; I felt I was not getting a fair deal. I said to myself, ``Why? No Vice President at *** said, `Give Hamming a bad time'. It is the secretaries at the bottom who are doing this. When a slot appears, they'll rush to find someone to slip in, but they go out and find somebody else. Now, why? I haven't mistreated them.'' Answer, I wasn't dressing the way they felt somebody in that situation should. It came down to just that - I wasn't dressing properly. I had to make the decision - was I going to assert my ego and dress the way I wanted to and have it steadily drain my effort from my professional life, or was I going to appear to conform better? I decided I would make an effort to appear to conform properly. The moment I did, I got much better service. And now, as an old colorful character, I get better service than other people.
You should dress according to the expectations of the audience spoken to. If I am going to give an address at the MIT computer center, I dress with a bolo and an old corduroy jacket or something else. I know enough not to let my clothes, my appearance, my manners get in the way of what I care about. An enormous number of scientists feel they must assert their ego and do their thing their way. They have got to be able to do this, that, or the other thing, and they pay a steady price.
LOL this. I only realized she was a woman when she started another thread about not being taken serious or something. Since I don't have avatars on.

exactly. one of the benefits of moving around a lot when i was younger is my ability to pick up accents very easily. a well placed accent makes making friends and rapport so much easier. i can pull out a southern, philly, socal, boston, and plain old mid-western accent, allow with requisite colloquialisms and expressions on a dime. i have enough knowledge of local streets and foods to add credibility to the accent. i also used to have a bit of a british accent, can pull of a chinese-fob accent/chinglish, and have several regional chinese accents. its just something that came easily for me, and that i've only just recently realized has great value.
