i feel like this would depend greatly on genetics, metabolism, and if he doesnt mind fat or if he just wants muscle...

With dat dere cell tech, you gain 7lbs in 7 days!

but on a srs note...if you take creatine, you could probably gain anwhere from 5-10 lbs (average is about 6-7) in a week or 2. And If he bulks and counts the creatine water-weight, he could probably gain 12-15 lbs in his first month If he works hard and eats like an animal. I'd say he could expect about a lb a week with a proper bulk and workout routine (of course some will be fat, and some will be glycogen, but some will also be muscle). I wouldnt say its out of the realm of possiblity to gain 2lbs of dry muscle for your first few months, and he could perhaps gain more (although some may argue that it is probably unlikely to gain more than 2lbs dry muscle in a month even with noob gains)...personally I've gained about 10 lbs in a month and a week, and I definitely look quite a bit bigger, some was fat, quite a bit was water, but I wouldnt doubt it if i gained about 3lbs dry muscle (I dont look fatter, and my vascularity has went up, so I couldn't have gained much fat !).
