    mood swings on keto

Since i have been on Keto, i feel very irritable. Im not having any problems with energy or getting my workouts done. Im also very good at staying on the program and dont feel like i crave any carbs. My only problem is i feel like im short tempered and cranky sometimes. Im wondering if its a chemical imbalance from no carbs. Anyone else experience this?

I get like this also. Usually (for me) it's a lack of fat or lack of water. Most of the time my mood is good though.

The first couple of days going into keto (after a carb load) I am very cranky. After the 2nd day though, I am more calm than usual.

Eh, I'm a b*tch all the time anyway whats one more little moodswing from keto?

To answer the question yes I am a bit grumpy on keto, serotonin tends to be low on keto I think but I'm not overly familer with the studies.

yeah, seratonin is a lot lower with lack of carbs. I get grumpy too from time to time, but I feel great after a good cardio session (boosts seratonin) or weight training...unless i'm too beat and just want to rest with everyone bugging me.

This is normal and part of the brain's mechanism to get you to raise blood sugar levels by eating carbs. Nothing much you can do about it. Some stimulants, like caffeine might help improve mood.

Sometimes I feel like I'm going to bounce off of the walls.

Are you getting enough sleep? I know this diet can sometimes throw off sleep.

I actually think I'm more even and generally happy. I cant get over how energetic I feel sometimes. Like last night I had to get up to my son 4 times and I had been studying up until midnight before that. At 6am I still bounced out of bed wide awake. . .

That said, in the first few days I was a bull with a sore head. . .

OMG..I was JUST thinking this today!! I have noticed I have been a little more "assertive" at work lately and couldn't figure out why and then got to thinkin maybe it had to do with keto. Glad to hear I'm not the only one!!

Interesting. Not even close for me. Doesn't effect my mood or temperament one bit. I feel more in tune with my body, how I eat, and the pleasures of a good gym workout and it seems to give me more of a calming effect.

And during my carb-up....forget about it. I'm in Oatmeal heaven.

It has nothing to do with keto. Just the fact that you are a female. Only kidding.....I get pretty cranky myself without the carbs.

    I'm just the opposite.

Keto is the only diet I can do without getting cranky.

In other words, people still wanna be my buddy.

Bad idea. What everyone is experiencing is a slight hormonal balance problem due to the shock of ketosis after (in most cases) a lifetime of carbs/glucosis. Its a resistance issue, it will get better, and its very normal. I experienced the same thing, just give it some time....

I too notice I’m agitated, irritated and easily angered. Is it the lack of fruit? This entire year it has gotten worse especially around my period. It’s very hard

Then why are you doing keto? If you feel worse it makes no sense.

Keto is nothing special for fat loss.
