deadlift help: shoulders rising faster than hips

whenever i deadlift i feel it mostly in my lower back versus my hamstrings/glutes.

i have a hard time initiating the lift with my legs, i tend to pull back immediately off the floor.

i tried lowering the weight a bunch and concentrating on form but i still can't seem to figure it out.

here's a video of me deadlifting:

    any ideas?

Your hips start really high. I don't really see anything particularly wrong with it.
I want to touch the butt.

Your form looks great!!! I don't see anything wrong with it!
If you are still concerned try pulling sumo for a while. This will help you get your legs more involved....Just remember, when you pull sumo think of squatting the weight up....

My husband has had great success with this type of training. He trains sumo, then he'll pull his opener two weeks out conventional. Then he will compete conventional at the meet!
My husband is a mid to high 700 deadlifter (conventional) and will usually pull sets of 6 sumo. This method will also help with speed off the floor!

Example: The first time he trained like this, the heaviest he went in training was 600 for 6. At the meet he opened with 605, went 660, and then 700. all sucessful. the next weekend he did another meet opened at 625 then hit 725, at 228.
Since then I have seen him do sets of six up to 665, with conventional pulls over 750 in training.

Hope this helps you in some way!

    Sincerely,
    CarolAnn

    thanks for the advice.

one thing i forgot to mention is whenever i do them i feel like im digging the bar into my shins and i make them bleed (even through pants).

ive heard of some people whos shins bleed when deadlifting and for others this never happens.

is this just because the different lengths of peoples legs, torso, arms, etc. cause some people to scrap and other people to not? its not necessarily a form issue?

If you are dragging the bar up your shins you are doing it correctly. In competition it is a requirement (in usapl anyways) to wear knee length socks during the deadlift so you don't rip your shins apart and bleed all over the bar. I would say a person who never touched their shins with the bar was the one with some minor form issues not you :P
