... and I don't start physical therapy for a couple more weeks. Do you guys have any suggestions of how I could alleviate some of my pain? (serious)
I have disk disease(L4-5) and a bulging disk(T11-12) and the muscles are ALWAYS really tense in my shoulders and all the way down my back along my spine. I have a REALLY hard time sleeping, even with my meds that I take. Are there anything I can do for it that won't stress it more, but loosen the muscles?
(serious please) thx

I watch football on a regular basis and understand it. I played rugby for a while(tight head), started the women's team at my Uni and now coach HS girls. I will be getting USA rugby coach certified in Dec 2009. Wish me luck! I'm starting a club from scratch YET AGAIN! lol
But for sleeping, if you sleep on your side put a pillow between your knees. and if you sleep on your back put the pillow under your knees. that helps me a lot and i dont have any back problems. it makes me sleep like a rock through the entire night and i dont wake up. if i dont do it i end up waking up multiple times.
best of luck.
*edit- also taking a lot of hot baths would help to alleviate some of the tenseness in your body. but you probably already know that.

I know a few Thai massage techniques. By "Thai massage techniques" I mean that while I give a massage I say "toothpick" and "thank you" in Thai.
But no, you do not get a massage. I'm too busy.
FIIIIIINE... how RUDE... lol

Are they going to fuse your vertebrae?. Did the doctor actually tell you that you can only f in the missionary position?, seems like an awkward conversation.

you should come to orange and let me massage it(no white knight)(yes serious)(yes knows how to massage)
i would ice it to stop any swelling you may have, and take a muscle relaxer of course. also maybe see if the doc will give you a very low dose steroid shot as an anti-inflammatory since it seems like NSAIDs dont work.

where IS Orange... I'm in DFW... and I do ice it down... in fact I have ice on it right now! My doc won't go as far as giving me any shots... bc she's a pussy woman doctor(no offense if any femmiscers see this and are) she has been a bitch to me too... I don't wanna go back. I'm more likely to handle the crap she's giving me by a dude doctor... be I'm a traditionalist LOL
I ran out of meds yesterday and they are having trouble transferring my prescription for a few days now. FML. so I'm in IMMENSE pain right now. Thanks for the advice... You can PM me if you want.

is it degenerative disk disease? my mom has had it for years. it got to the point it was too much and she had a 2 level fusion. she was fine for a few years after. now that several have passed, the fusion has but stress on the disks directly above and below the fusion and they are starting to degenerate

interesting. i dont think i have filled a script for norflex in the last 3 years since i been at the hospital... come to think of it, i dont think i ever filled one even when i worked retail. how is it working for you?
advil is pretty basic. tramadol is one of the weakest perscription pain killers out there its not a controlled, atleast not in oregon. if your pain is THAT bad, there are stronger ones before getting too crazy. You can get vicodin/lortab/norco (its the same hydrocodone just different strengths and amount of tylenol in it.
vicodin is a 5/500 or a 7.5/750
lortab is 7.5/500 and 10/500
norco is 5/325 and 10/325
1st number is the hydrocodone, 2nd number is tylenol. usually the norco is used in higher doses to keep the tylenol levels down due to liver damage at high levels.
There is alot stronger ones for break through pain like dilaudid, but its pretty potent. not sure how bad it is though?
my mom has a weak stomach and cant handle pain killers, so she has to take a 1/2 tab of vicodin.
fexeril is a good muscle relaxer but its pretty strong, (atleast on me) when would tweak my back, i always wanted something to just ease/kill the spasm, not make me crazy drowzy. skelaxin worked great for me, but its alot more expensive and your problem is definately worse.
a common problem though, when people start taking stronger pain killers and it kills the pain, they have a habit of forgetting about the problem and the go back to doing things that they normall couldnt do and make the problem worse, then have to increase the pain meds when they start hurting more or they build up a tolerance to it.
