Overtraining

Well I am officially "Overtrained". I have most of the syptoms, Tired all the time, Depressed, loss of appetite(yahoo)and I almost dread going to the gym. I teach
a bootcamp class on Monday and Friday a general "stretch and strength"class 5 times a week and a Senior fitness class 2 times a week and also TRY and get in at least one
workout of my own. I walk/Jog every morning a few miles with my dog.
Not sure what to do. I eat good and sleep like a log. Took a few days off this week, but
feel even worse today. What can I do besides quitiing my job and going on a 2 week cruise.

Hum... that's really hard since your job is working out! Do you have any vacation days stored up? Can you find something non-workout oriented to help get your mind off work/working out?

Can you "work" a little less at work? Lower the weight or reps for yourself? Put out a little less energy for your "work" workouts and maybe that'll help. Do you have a dog park close where you can take your dog and have him fetch a ball or something so he can get some exercise and you can take a bit of a break?

I've tried a planned overtraining program, and what I learned from it was:

Lots of sleep -but stay in your natural rythm. I did not nap during the day, I just slept longer during the nights. (If you have trouble getting sleep, make adjustments! Use earplugs, darken your room, don't watch telly, take trypthophan, eat bananas, do whatever it takes to get the rest you need!)
Lots of carbs, get out into the sun (i went to a tanning salon), stop trying to get one workout of your own, and cut yourself some slack (do 30-50% of your normal intensity) during the classes for the coming week. Don't jog. GEt a massage. For me, it took almost a week completely off to get back on track. AFter a month, I was mentally normal again. I also to glutamin, and re-started the fishoil i quit during my off-period. And my social life? Only what felt like easy, i did. I didn't party until two weeks after my overtraining set in.

Most of the time when then happens alot of it falls back on your diet. I'm sure you're eating healthy, but your probably not eating enough. Just a slight increase in calories could do wonders!

Feel better.
