Highway drug checkpoint?!
My wife was driving down 55 in Illinois and saw two signs. One read: Drug checkpoint 2 miles ahead. 2nd one about 100yrds after that: All vehicles subject to search.
55 is a major highway. What is this sh*t?!
Doesn't this violate anything, like our freedom to just drive and mind our own business maybe?

Ok, so I just found out that it's literally a fake checkpoint to get people to do U-turns, that way the police can suspect them of having drugs and first pull them over for doing an illegal U-turn.

Ive seen these before, and what they will do is set those sign up usually about a mile or two before an exit. The assume people who are guilty will get off at the exit, and the BAM, that's where the road block is really set up.

As long as they have the legal right to set up a checkpoint for conducting searches this would not be entrapment.

This, we have a few majors ones here where I live in south Texas. One headed north on 77 and one headed north on 281. You stop, they ask everyone in the car if they're American citizens, you say yes, then they let you continue. If you're white and have an especially dark Mexican or Asian friend with you, they'll single them out and ask if they're American citizens to see if their response is broken or not.
They're a pain in the ass when they get tipped off about a drug shipment going through, but most of the time, the process takes about 10 seconds.
