What is the most important factor in becomming a good KICKBOXER?
okay im asking this question cause i have to wonder why alot of mma has such bad kickboxers.... jake shields friends have said he has trained in kickboxing for yearsss yet he still isnt the greatest thing on the feet.. yet somebody like silva is as good as he is
okay now do you guys think its the training, what the guys put into the training themselves in terms of intensity and attention to details... bag/pad work, what?
another thing the guys who i went to school with who goes to the gym i go to do alot of training outside of the gym and quickly got alot better than most the guys at the gym who have been training standup for years, and my friends mostly work on cardio/power rather than technique and stetching so its not like they are getting extra technique outside the gym....
so in the end what you guys think are the most important factors as to why some ppl excel in standup while some ppl like florian who arent naturally good at it can train to be decent and then why some ppl like jake shields among 90% of the mma community suck at it???

Effort and time, you have to dedicate yourself to be really good...

you can't just be naturally good at something, you have to be trained. Either they don't put the effort they claim they do, or they aren't being trained correctly. Simple as that

Its not just about having "good kicks."
Its about having the proper technique of setting these kicks up - combos.

That's just lack of technique.
Then again, kickboxing and MMA stand up are quite different

I think you need a lot of natural talent as well as training to be at the top.

To be a good kickboxer you need leg kicks, head kicks, body kicks, spinning back kicks, superman punches, spinning back fists, and some characters have the overhand right or other forms of punches.

Your mindset , understanding of fighting , ring manship , reading an opponent etc.
Plenty of guy look awesome on the bag , have beautiful kicks and mean punches that i'm infinitely jealous of but in sparing just don't know how to put it together , timing is off making the wrong decisions , badly telegraphing shots and so on .
(this is from from other disciplines , I've never done or been at a pure kickboxing school)

it sux that if your a kickboxer you cant throw a headkick without doing a full 360 and exposing youself to an attack

as far as fighting goes, you have to know how to combo correctly, know some good setup.

this totally.
you can be a "good striker" in mma terms, and still be a terrible technical kickboxer. the opportunity for takedowns nullifies a lot of the commitment needed to utilise striking techniques properly

Personally I think what seperates the "GOOD" stand up fighters from the "GREAT" stand up fighters is timing. Wether is be timing with feet or hands... or footwork... combos yada yada yada... its all timing.
There are lots of ways to work on timing... ASK YOUR COACHES
