    I workout with 60-70lb dumbells, just depends on how I feel for 3x8-10 reps. My one rep max on bench is 245lb. I would say you can do 135 for 10.

    Anyways, If you're doing dumbbell presses on 'SS' then you're not doing Starting Strength.

    Get the book, read it and follow it if you want to do Starting Strength. It will explain where to start you bench weight at.

    He's not doing starting strength. He'd be doing a modified starting strength or starting strength remixed.

    But see, even the "Club mix" of a song, is still that song. Just slightly different. It is still starting strength, just slightly different.

    dunno, but don't do it on the smith machine. tried to show off benching on the smith not knowing that it actually lowers your numbers... freakin' embarrasing.

    Completely different exercises. Some people are really good at dumbells where others are better at barbell.Like everyone elese that replied, the best option is to start off light around 145 and build up till you get a comfortable weight you can do for 3x5.
