Homemade workout shakes/drinks
I'm reading up on some of the old bodybuilders like Reg Park, and read he made his own workout drinks made out of full milk, (double) cream and honey.
He also drank 2 pints of diluted orange juice concentrate + honey.
These helped him to recover from workouts (restore energy) and helped him bulk up.
Since I have a tight schedule I don't have enough time to stuff my face as much as I want to. So these shakes/drinks seem great for me.
I'm not a real fan of supplement powders, since I would like to know what I put in my own shakes.
What do you guys think of the ones Reg used and do you guys have any suggestions yourself on how to make some homemade workout drinks/shakes (protein weightgain recipes or links)?
Thanks

carbs: milk, oats, dextrose, fruit
fats: peanut butter, oils, milk
Find a combination you like and meets your calorie needs

Well I don't have any protein or weightgain powders, not planning on buying them aswell. Never know exactly what's in them anyway. Want to make my workout shakes from regular food sources, to bulk up.
I read that you can buy egg whites in "drink" form in the US, never saw something like that in the Netherlands though. Have to look into that!

whey isn't a weight gainer it is derived from milk
You can get an isolate that is 100% whey (cheaper than egg whites)
you could of course substitute in 1cup egg whites for a scoop fo whey but it doesn't taste as good. Or you can buy egg white protein powder (again 100% egg whites just dehydrated into powder form)
I am against weightgainers and other powders as well, but whey and egg white powder is just dehyrated liquid into powder form (aka real food).

I didn't know that, you learn something knew everyday, thanks! But if that's the case, why not just use whole eggs, since the yolk has a lot of proteins and vitamens aswell.

you could do that but ithe shake wouldn't have as much protein
2 eggs=140 calories, 12g protein
1c egg whites=120calories 26 g protein
1 scoop whey=120 calories 25-26g protein
So it depends what you need and what else you use.

1 scoop ON Rocky Road Whey
1 Banana
1 cup blue berries
1 cup OJ
1 cup spinnach
4-5 Ice cubes
It was actually really good. I like to throw in some healthy veggies I wouldnt normally eat on their own, couldnt even taste the spinach.

Yeah, there's Protein drinks in there. Here are a few relevant quotes. The recipes included are for higher calorie drinks. There's nothing groundbreaking, really.
Page 709:
"Not only are protein supplements a cost-effective means of increasing protein intake without significantly increasing dietary fat, they are also convenient, which is important since meal frequency is such a critical aspect of bodybuilding nutrition."
The following recipe is under a subheading called "High-Protein, High-Calorie Drinks"
Level I (there are three "levels") Recipe, Page 741:
20 oz milk or juice
4 oz cream (or 1 oz safflower oil and 3 oz water)*
2 eggs
2 teaspoons lecithin
1/2 cup good-quality milk-and-egg protein powder
Flavoring (very ripe banana, vanilla extract, other fruit flavoring, etc.)
*For those with a slower metabolism, substitute safflower oil and water for the cream. If additional calories are not a problem, try alternating cream one day with oil and water the next.

I have it, but I don't recommend following the nutrition section as its an old book and out dated... Nutritional science has come along way since then
