Those ancient civilizations also lacked the technology and medical breakthroughs that we now are accustomed to which have allowed millions to heal and survive many catastrophes over the years. I mean, back then, in war, if you were cut by a sword, you were either going to die from the internal damage and bleeding, or you were going to die from infection later on. In today's world, you need a new organ, ok let us remove the old one and input the new one during which we put you to sleep so you don't experience any pain during the procedure. Oh, your arteries are blocked? Let us take some out of your leg and put them into your chest replacing the ones that led to your heart.

These are pretty crappy examples, but hopefully you get my point. I'm not saying we can shield the Earth from some freak solar flare, but I am saying that if for some reason there is an enormous volcano eruption, or another tidal wave hits, I'm sure we'll be just fine. You have to remember what culture and beliefs were like during the times that these civilizations lived through. These people were hunter/gatherers. Made there houses out of stone blocks. Were forced to live by rivers, oceans and lake because they could not transport to the inland. They had no means of efficient travel, long travel journeys usually meant death. Today, we have space probes past Saturn and photographs of stars and galaxies so far away these civilizations were not even aware of their existence. We went to the god dam moon, another planet basically. And who knows what kind of **** the military has going on now. Hell, in the 1980's the military had **** we are accustomed to today. If any of those civilizations saw the stuff we have now, like a corvette, a plane, a movie, or even a bodybuilder for example, they would probably literally crap their flaps and turn us into God figures. We have learned so much beyond what they ever thought was of existence or even possible.

I mean, unless the government is withholding evidence that suggests an alien race visited these people thousands of years ago and told them some **** was going to happen to them in 2012, then I don't see any reason why we need to freak out about this.

Does anyone know the mathematical technique and design behind the calendars these civilizations used? Was there a specific reason why this date was chosen? Could it have anything to do with 2012 being some sacred religious number, seeing that all these ancient civilizations were hell bent on worship anything that floated in the air?

I skimmed through your post because colinpowell.jpg but, as you mentioned, there's plenty of terrestrial and extraterrestrial catastrophes that we don't have the technology to prevent.

On another note... As the OP mentioned, lots of the prophecies are positive.
