I'm new to body bodybuilding; but, not new to lifting in general (used to play football in high school and lifted off and on for the last 6 - 7 years). However, I'm going to take up bodybuilding as a hobby in order to get back in shape and transform my body. The question that I have in the morning is a simple one: How much protein should I take in the morning?
Currently I split up 7 meals where I consume about 30 grams of proteins each. First thing when I wake up in the morning I take two scoops of ON 100% Whey with water. After taking the my morning dose of protein, I stretch for a few minutes, take my mult-vitamin + an energy pill, then head to the gym for my morning workout which consists of 20 mins cardio, 50 mins weight training and 15 mins cardio + 5 minute cool-down. After my workout I take two scoops of ON 100% Whey mixed with water. Throughout the day I ether take one scoop of Monster Milk mixed with water or ON 100% mixed with 8 ounce of skim milk along with a handful of nuts for about 32 grams of protein. I usually have this twice a day (one in-between breakfast and lunch and one in-between lunch and dinner). Before I go to bed I either take a scoop of Monster Milk or ON 100% Whey with 8 ounces of skim milk.
So, I'm wondering if the two scoops upon waking are too much and if one scoop mixed with water would suffice. I understand that my body needs protein immediately upon waking; but, I guess I was looking at it as needing protein the same way the body needs protein right after a workout. This is the reason I doubled up the servings and took two scoops instead of one. Is one scoop with water enough?
Thanks in advance for your insight.

Anywhere from zero to 30... 40.. maybe 50 grams?
Depends entirely on your morning routine. If you wake up and eat 6 or 7 eggs, I'd doubt anyone that tells you you -must- drink some whey protein. Sounds like you don't eat breakfast, so probably just a scoop.
Personally, I'd grind up a serving of oats in a spice mill and throw that into the morning post-workout shake with some protien too.
