Do you think three days off between workouts is too much rest for a beginner?

I'm on rippetoes, but my friend is just starting to lift weights. He is about to begin an upper/lower body split that gives three days of rest between workouts. Do you think this is too much rest, or do you think a beginner like him needs the rest?

no not really, in those three days he should focus on diet and sleep.

If I know what I know now, I wouldhave worked out 5 days a week eating perfectly and sleeping 8 - 9 hours a night to get optimal NOOBIE GAINS.

depending on age/fitness, he probably doesnt need that long. but maybe he does, just tell him to listen to his body, if he needs that much time he'll know it after a couple workouts.

i know i could get flamed for this but anyone just starting out who follows arnolds encycolpedia of bodybuilding building is going down the wrong path. His methods of training are absolutely unigue only to him. If he was not such a genetic marvel the average man or even decent bodybuilder would suffere greatly under his tutilage. Massive amounts of volume were incorporated in his sytle of training. As years have gone by more and mroe evidence has come out of science indicated the exact opposite for optimum muscle shock and growth.
