if i add enough weight so i can only do ten reps.. would this promote muscle gainss like the bench press? reason asked is cuz i cant make it to a gym the next four weeks and am doing weighted chins pushups and squats..

You wont make gains like you would on the bench press, but you will see muscle mass increases

I do pushups with a weighted backpack, and I see fair gains. It won't be HUGE gains, but decent ones. And yes, you will see improvements on Chest, but in a semi long period of time, if you keep doing them of course.
If you are doing them with a backpack, I recommend getting one that has straps that lock on across your stomach and back, so that why it doesn't whoosh and sway when your doing them, (if can put stress on your shoulders or arms).
