How many calories does weight lifting burn?

    If you do something like:

    Deadlift:
    105 x 12
    125 x 10
    145 x 6
    145 x 6
    195 x 3
    195 x 3
    205 x 2

    Bench Press:
    70 x 12
    110 x 10
    125 x 6
    125 x 6
    145 x 2
    145 x 2
    145 x 1

    Upper Chest
    30 DB x 8
    30 DB x 8
    30 DB x 8

    Lat Pulldowns:
    70 x 10
    70 x 10
    80 x 6
    80 x 6
    95 x 3
    95 x 3
    95 x 3

    Superset Curls/Tricep Pushdowns:
    set of 8 with 25/band
    set of 8 with 25/band
    set of 8 with 25/band

    +Weighted abs

This usually takes 1 1/2-2 hours to complete. On the reps 3 or lower, I am lifting heavy(don't mind the numbers I just copied and pasted for the outline). In a workout session like this, about how many calories would be burned?

Probably somewhere between 250-500. Call it 300-350 for arguements sake.

    I've read 350-400 elsewhere

    +1

While doing a body for life workout program, I lost more weight. I was using 30 second to 45 second rests.

I've since switched to a split workout routine based around compound movements and low rep sets(4x5) using 1.5-2min rests. My strength has gone up substantially, but my weight loss has slowed. I've begun taking measurements every other week and though my weight loss has slowed, my waist is getting smaller and my bodyfat is still going down(scale, calipers and tape measure methods)

Different paths to the same place.

I am already losing enough weight per week through diet and enjoying the muscle I am gaining as well. I was just wondering so I could factor it into my calorie counting.

Not much but in the long run it will help greatly to permanently up your metabolism through the extra pounds of muscle. I believe 1lb of muscle will boost your metabolism anywhere from 10-50 calories depending on your genetics. All that extra muscle will help you cut up easier and let you enjoy even more food when your bulking.

30 second to 1 min rest between sets = gold.
I use to workout and rest 1-3 mins before sets and id literally never break a sweat.
Now i do P90X, and im dying before even half the workout is done. Chest and Back, Shoulders and Arms, and Back and Legs days make me drip sweat.
Today was chest and back. I wanted to quit halfway thru. I pushed through it and am sure as **** glad I did.
Been on p90x for 28 days now and down 15 pounds.

Haha, about 2 years ago, I tried P90X...

After the first workout, I got dizzy and felt like I was going to die. Never touched those again.

    I'm better, now. :P

Might try it, again, now that I'm in better shape.
