How much does it cost to cancel a cellphone contract?

My provider won't give me a discount on a new phone since my contract isn't up for renewal anytime soon. So I was considering cancelling the contract and going to another provider who will give me a new phone for free.

Anybody know how much T-Mobile charges for a cancellation? Is it a flat fee, or a % of your remaining balance?

I used to work for T-Mobile (in the UK).

The way it worked if you wanted to cancel early is that you would have to pay the remainder of the contract minus a small percentage (about 5%).

Depending on the number of months left in your current contract. Expect it to be $$ though... you don't think you're the first person to try this? Just buy the phone.

You can find most phones unlocked online if you do a bit of searching. They are usually much less than if you were to buy it from the service provider.

Depends on where your from. In Canada its $20/month x months remaining up to a max of $200.

I guess I can just call and ask. I didn't think it would be more than $200 at the most, but sounds like it could be.

Tried to find this vid from a while ago where they guy was able to cancel his phone because of an increase in the taxes on his bill.
