How long do you lift weights each day?

Curious, how long does it take you to lift weights in the gym? (not counting stretching/cardio)

I am still learning more exercises (and reading a book) but it seems like if I do 3 sets of 8 I can can hit nearly every muscle group in a 1 hour workout, but I don't think I am supposed to hit the same muscles again the next day (even if they are not sore).

On arm day in the gym for instance, should I hit many of the same muscles multiple times with different exercises so I don't end up just doing legs anyway becasue I am only 20 minutes in and hit all the muscles on my mental checklist?

It just seems too easy if when I target a muscle till failure with 3 sets of 8 I am just done with it for ~36 hours when the muscle is (mostly) fine again 5 minutes later.

    QUOTE]

    weights 90 min

i dont usually do cardio and when i do its only for 5 -10 min (intense)

usually start by warming up with light weight...
    curls for example
    10 reps of 25lbs
    2-3 min break
    10 reps of 30lbs
    2-3min break
    10 reps of 35
    break
    10 reps of 40
    5-10 min break
or work out my lower back during this time
    6-8reps of 45lbs

i started getting really good results when i stopped doing cardio.

    Smile

60'ish mins including 7.5-12.5 min warm up, core, & stretch.

i usually do 1 warm up set & 2-3 sets.
i keep it intense as fck & rest only enough to get my joints/muscles ready to lift again. i recover mentally quite quickly, though.

weights usually take 1-2 hours because of the rest between sets and walking over to various machines etc

    cardio usually 30-40 minutes.

If it takes you longer than 1 hour to lift weights, then you're...

    1.) Doing something wrong
2.) Taking way too long in between sets for rest/changing weights
    3.) Over-training
4.) One of those people who reads magazines while they lift, talks to every single person in the gym, etc.

I was wondering about this, but I have no choice. I clean machines before and after I use them. I have been doing a few superset exercises, but I am not sure if it is helping because of all the cleaning I am doing. Most of the time I try and stay around the same area and quickly jot down the sets/reps in long. My weight lifting takes longer than an hour and I guess would average around 75 minutes. Longest time is 90 minutes.

Right now I lift 3 times a week. I try to do it in one hour or 45 minutes it depends on how I feel that day. Rest between sets shouldnt take more than 45 seconds or 1 minute, since I take just 30 seconds for rest I saw it works better for me

I time all my workouts, stretching, cardio, rest between sets/exercises.

I've recently changed from a HIT DC style workout which took ~52-58min to complete to a HST routine that now takes 41-45min to complete. Both were high frequency/low volume platforms @ ~6days/week. I do cardio maybe 2-3x week & I'll dynamic stretch 10-15min prior and static stretch 10-15min post WO. When I do cardio, I usually perform it at a different time of day instead of immediately after/before my workout as I feel it is less efficient and effective towards my goals.

1 hour to 1 hour 15 min, not counting cardio.
But I usually rest 60-90 seconds between sets, up to 120 if I am on a cut and squatting / deadlifting.

Squatting in a caloric deficite = AIDS.

30 minutes if I have my gym to myself. Not counting cardio. Cardio is usually a 20 min. session, so about 50 minutes.

~35-40 mins for me... 60-90 secs between sets...
i don't like to spend more than an hour at the gym including changing up, filling water bottle, chatting a bit, etc.

once a week i do 15min treadmill and then i need to rest 5-10 min before lifting so that becomes a 1h workout... god i hate cardio!!

Sample workout is in my sig in the PSMF-thread.. You can add 2 warm up sets per exercise (I do, however, not pause for more than 30 seconds or so between them).

Today that would have been: 42 sets
