I have been doing Deadlifts, my form has improved alot, but I am still unsure of how many sets/reps to do? right now I am doing 3X6 Is this too much?

My family also has a history of back problems. Grandpa, Dad and my 24 yr old brother. Who said he first messed up his back when he was dribbling a basketball. Should I be doing them? I am only doing 175LB right now to keep the weight relatively light as I dont want to mess up my back given family history

    Thanks

I've been doing no more than two sets for the past few months, and my gains have been great.

I warm up with 225x5, and then alternate between the following from week to week:
    Week 1: 315x9, 365x1
    Week 2: 385x1

    (weights included for relativity).

I was the only person who would deadlift at my gym in college. I started pretty late too compared to how long I'd been doing other movements. Remember the first time I did it, my whole system went into shock. It was such an onslaught on my body. But it gave me the final kick I needed in my training back then.

How would you split your workouts if you're doing deadlifts? Do they go on back day? on leg day?

I'm glad for that video. I've been wanting to try deadlifts but I was really worry about proper form because I don't want to hurt my back. I think that video explains it pretty well so I'm excited to try them next week.

How does the grip work? I've seen people with over under, and both over. Which is better? and if you do over and under how do you know which hand to do over and which under? Thanks a lot

My grip is much stronger in the mixed position. You can arrange them whichever way you feel more comfortable. For me, it's left hand under and right hand over. I can hold 225 lbs. for 45 seconds with a mixed grip, but only for 6 seconds with double overhand.

I completely agree with this article. I use to one of those guys who never really deadlifted.
Recently I started using the Coan/Phillipi 10 week deadlift workout. I am on week 5 and my back has already grew. Even my other lifts have at a significant increase since I started this routine. Definitely a huge fan of deadlifts now.
