Here's an interesting take on the Friday the 13th franchise....the things said actually never crossed my mind...

I believe that Jason did not drown in the lake. I believe that Jason as seen in parts 2-4 was JUST a man, albeit a strong and resilient one. And being JUST a man, Jason had needs. I plan to try, through over analyzation, to support my ideas with evidence from the series lore...

Jason, as in parts 2-4, is close to a modern day version of a primitive...or an animal...whichever you choose as a more accurate comparison. He functions completely on instinct and he is bound by the laws of nature. In Friday the 13th part 2 we can see that Jason has built himself a ramshackle shack in the woods. Shelter is a basic need
for all living creatures. Jason is decked out in a plaid shirt and a pair of bib overalls that put Osh Kosh to shame. I assume he got the clothes the same way as he does in Part 3.

He has set up a shrine in his home to his Mother with her head on a table. And what is her head surrounded by? Lit candles. Not only can Jason make fire but he recognizes the symbolism of lit candles as paying respect to the dead. It's obvious that Jason has some rudimentary intelligence. Granted he's not as smart as an average human being, but he is smart enough to be survive and to be dangerous. Evidence of that would be how he tracked down Alice after she beheaded his Mother and killed her and then brought her body back to his home! Obviously, the concept of revenge is not lost on him.

And what also is found in Jason's abode? A toilet. So it stands to reason that Jason has to use the bathroom from time to time. And from that fact you can infer that in order to excrete waste Jason has to eat and drink something. But what does he eat and drink? I believe Jason eats animals and, on occasion, his victims. Possible proof that Jason eats his victims could be the fact there was a mutilated dog in the woods. Though it can't be proven that Jason was responsible, you can infer that the dog was possibly the aftermath of a wild and crazy Saturday night of drinking too much lake water...

With food, water, and shelter out of the way we are left with one more basic natural need that Jason must obey. The natural desire for the old S.E.X. I believe that Jason rapes some of his victims. As of this post I'm only speculating about what he does to live victims though it could possibly be debated that Jason takes part in necrophilia as well. We see two VERY ambiguous happenings in Parts 2, 3, and 4 that lead me to this conclusion.

In Part 2, at the end Ginny is grabbed through the window by a hoodless Jason. When she wakes up, Paul, who we thought had survived is now mysteriously gone and she is being taken away on a stretcher as the sole survivor. What happened in the time after she was pulled out the window until the time she woke up? And if indeed the scene was a 'dream sequence' as has been stated by some before, then what REALLY happened to Paul? As we do not see him dying we can assume that something else HAD to have happened that the film did not show.

In Part 3, Chris is telling Rick about the night when she was attacked in the woods by Jason all those months before. In the flashback, you see her sitting in the dry spot under the old oak tree, as she stated, and then suddenly out of nowhere Jason pounces on her (Curiously wearing the same clothes that he had supposedly just gotten the night before). He drags her across the ground and she blacks out. And by her own admission she "doesn't know what happened after that. she just doesn't know". If Jason DIDN'T rape her then why attack her and let her live? It's hard to believe that Jason possibly didn't kill her because he was 'scared off'. When has Jason ever been 'scared off'? Never. And even if her Father DID go looking for her in the woods, with her unconscious, Jason would have simply killed him as well.

In Part 4, after Trish has slammed the machete into Jason's hand and chest instead of picking up the weapon he knocked away from her to kill her he chooses to straddle her body instead and attempt to pin her arms down. Jason ONLY stops when Tommy comes down the stares to distract him. Coincidence?

Further support for my claims:

I was watching my Friday the 13th part 3 DVD earlier today and I decided to turn on the subtitles.
During the scene after the credits where the wife is watching the news report on TV just after yelling at her husband for messing up the clothes line I read something interesting that possibly hinted at what Jason actually did (other than murder people)...

Here is the transcript of the news report via the subtitles:

"The quiet little community of Crystal Lake was shocked today with reports of a grisly mass murder scene. Eight corpses have been discovered in what is already being called the most brutal and heinous crime in local history. A police spokesman told Eye-On News that they've been combing the area since just before dawn and are afraid that their gruesome discovery is just the beginning. Police Chief Scott Fitzsimmons had no comment about the murders when reached early this morning. Detectives at the scene, however, were baffled by the brutality of the killings. Bodies were found literally strewn over the four-square-mile campground in the remote lake region. Ginny Field miraculously survived repeated attacks by the ax-wielding killer and was taken to the local hospital today. She is in serious condition, suffering from multiple stab wounds and severe hysterical shock. The names of the eight victims are being withheld until notification of next of kin. Reports of cannibalism and sexual mutilations are still unconfirmed at this hour. The person responsible for the Crystal Lake horror remains at large."

It's pretty odd how they happened to mention BOTH cannibalism and sexual mutilations in the same breath. This to me only adds a new twisted dimension to an already notoriously brutal horror icon.

Finally, in conclusion, let me say this - I believe Jason, at least from parts 1-4, acts purely on natural instincts. It could even be speculated that the motives behind Jason's murders, other than the initial act of revenge against Alice, is simply an extreme example of the instinct to defend one's home and self from outside malevolent forces...but that is a topic to be saved for another. In the end, Jason's true intentions are dubious at best...but some people can and will always speculate...

Thoughts? I know DS and Maniac are fans.....

I'm watching the Halloween reboot right now (actually waiting to finish it, dang Megavideo and the 72 minute limit). So far I don't see why it was hated by fans :shrug: It's really good IMO.

I may watch the Friday reboot either later today or tomorrow.

Reading it, interesting. I don't think Jason was sub-human intellect, though. He was pretty cunning, although he wasn't smart enough to actually run when he would chase the final girl in the parts 2-4. I'll come back when I've finished it

Washington state or DC?

I'd say from state to you in NY would be 3-5 days IMO. MAYBE you will see it today.

I am so damn antsy for this job interview. IT is killing me, I know not to get my hopes up, but damnit, if I dont get this job. I am gonna quit looking till my wife goes on pregnancy leave. Me either. It makes you think about it differently.

I was always a fan of the unused Freddy vs Jason vs Ash script. In it you learn that momma Vorhees was so upset over Jason drowning that she used the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis to resurrect him...thus his seeming immortality and superhuman strength. The book was even shown for a few seconds in the house in Jason Goes to Hell.

But that article did shed new light on things and makes me want to watch the first four again.
