Bunch of brown rice haters around here.
If you are used to white rice then it will be easier on you to use short grain brown rice it is a bit stickier and has a milder flavor.
Also when you cook your rice, cook it in a stock of some sort I like a veggie broth or Miso but chicken broth or another type would do fine.
Whatever you do stay away from the instant rice crap.

Maybe not good but better :)
I mix it up a bit. I use chicken stock instead of water or at least half/half water and chicken stock. then i add a pkt of onion soup mix, the dry mix. Sometimes i will add other herbs/spices like mesquite powder or kefta powder or tamuric. (Spices and soup mixes added depend on if im needing to cut sodium or not)
Then when theres about 20 min left to the cook time, i add some quinoa. You said you dont want to add fat but olive oil is a healthy fat esp if you're trying to cut.
Hope this helps you create your own favorite
