    How to not suck at jerks

    So once again I've found myself as the lone powerlifter lifting with an olympic lifting team. Although this time, instead of just snatching I feel like I want to do an entire day of olympic lifting added to my normal 3 day PL split to up my explosiveness, as right now thats an area I feel slightly lacking in.

    So, I'm a good power snatcher, and when I accidentally perform a full snatch I've been told it looks very good, but I could not do this on command.

    I'm having trouble with the clean catch and the jerk portion of the clean and jerk, so more or less the entire lift.

    How can I work on getting my elbows up while performing the catch, and how do you get any power to come on the jerk when your elbows are out in front of you instead of directly under the bar like in a push press?

    For the jerk, all your power comes from the leg drive u get from that quarte squat u dip into. All your arms really do is push your body under the bar and hold the weight up when its caught

    I would tell to front squat heavy and often to get used to the rack position but since your a PLer that might not be viable, you might just hold a heavy bar in the rack position and have someone force your elbows up

    for jerks I like to think of pushing my knees out and then jumping, to lockout I like to think of flexing your lats against the bar; its not unlike PL benching where alot of power comes from the upper back
