Do You Think Arnold Schwarzenegger= Best Bodybuilding Physique Ever?

Yes, it's another Arnold Schwarzenegger appreciation thread. 7 Times Mr Olympia (1970-1975,1980 with at least 4 of them deserved lol),film star and Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger imo has the best bodybuilding physique. You will probably say that "He has small legs, huge chest and biceps and needs more overall mass to compete today"

BUT how many of you would honestly want freaky, bloated gut and roid-loaded overdeveloped body like Dorian Yates,Ronnie Coleman or Jay Cutler? Not to mention his FLAT STOMACH physique looks achievable as well as the fact that his apollian/aesthetic physique looks good with a strong 57" chest, huge biceps on his 22" arms and awesome shoulders on a waist of only 34". Plus developing the legs anymore than what they are would make him look muscle-bound and would probably be impossible for someone at a height of 6'2" (they're already 28.5").

Here are pics of the Oak- I honestly think that he has an awesome physique that is achievable and is truely balanced; I mean there aren't really any aesthetic bodybuilders as big as him and not many mass monsters as ripped and conditioned as him- best of both worlds!

5x5 is the greatest program ever (well, so far).

    My favourite fighters:

    1. Georges St. Pierre,
    2. Junior Dos Santos,
    3. Brock Lesnar,
    4. Bas Rutten,
    5. Randy Couture
    5. Daniel Cormier

All I am gonna say is for his day he was pretty unbeatable! If he was in his prime today, with his drive and ambition and the same science/drugs/knowledge of today's champions, I have no doubt that he would still be on top.

If we are going on pure comparision and not taking in to account when they competed, there is no way you can say that Arnold had the best physique ever. I am a huge Arnold fan and he was the reason that I ever touched a barbell, but there is no way he was better than Ronnie Coleman in his prime.

That is not to say that Arnie wouldn't be if he was also in his prime at the same time as big Ron!

    Arnold vs. The 2000's

Arnold's chest and biceps STILL better! He needs to work on his legs a little bit as well as his back BUT still good!

    Ronnie> Jay> Arnold but Arnold's still good!

    Arnold's most muscular pose!

AWESOME! Arnold looks similar to Jay in this one!

    Arnold's superior abs!

I honestly prefer to have a physique like Arnie rather than these monsters now a days, even in amateur there are a lot of freaks, but not as pleasing to the eye as Arnold had then. Arnold in our time is considered an icon in this sport and a lot of people really look up to him and idolize him for what he has done in bodybuilding, therefore there's no denial that he had a great and unique physique back then. As a matter of fact most of the gyms in our place have posters of Arnold on the wall. Meaning to say, his physique do really attract and inspires a lot of youth today to start lifting weights and even the older people, because it's unique, plus he has the height and good looks in bodybuilding which is good for marketing side LOL...and a very good example of this in our time is Jay...

If Arnold competed today with today's *ahem*, he'd look like a similar German-sepaking bodybuilder with a similar V frame (well X frame) and minimal roid belly!

I was gonna use Toney Freeman as an example but I needed a white/German bodybuilder (not racist)

arnold would have trouble winning the usa's or nationals now. I'm about as big of an arnold fan as their is but it is what it is.

for some reason people feel that if they don't admit he'd get beat today his legacy would be diminished. That is the ONLY reason people hesitate to admit he'd get beat today.

If his name was not arnold and you put him against anyone in the past 20 years it woudl be pretty clear.

Frank Zane has the best physique ever in my oppinion. Arnold a close second. and Sergio takes third.
    Arnolds Six Rules of Success
    1. Trust yourself.
    2. Break the rules.
    3. Don't be afraid to fail.
    4. Don't listen to the naysayers.
    5. Work your butt off.
    6. It's about giving back.

"When you want to succeed as bad as you wanna breathe, then you'll be successful."

"He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man."

A few points I'd like to make in respect to The Oak.

Aesthetically, Arnold to me had the body I'd choose above all other pro's even today. I prefer the look of the past over today's mass giants of the Olympia and there will always be a part of me that wishes more organizations would pursue that Greek statuesque model; withstanding the Arnold Classic.

We also have to admire what the man has done for the sport. To me, Arnold was and still is bodybuilding. He made it mainstream and a lot of us grew up with Arnie being our idol.

Now, the question is always asked, how would Arnold do in today's game? To me I think that's an unfair question to assess. You have to remember, at the time judges were looking for something completely different than what we're used to seeing walk the stages today and Arnold was able to find perfection around different rules, eyes, and thought processes than what the Ronnies, Cutlers, and Ruhl's are exposed to today. It's like asking if Ronnie went back and competed in The Oaks era, how would he do? My assumption is he wouldn't do very good at all.

That's pretty undesirable tbh-it looks bad-not to mention his quads look whoa!

I don't think he would've wanted to look too big though-I like the fact he has the Apollian physique with super chest, shoulders and biceps.
5x5 is the greatest program ever (well, so far).

    My favourite fighters:

    1. Georges St. Pierre,
    2. Junior Dos Santos,
    3. Brock Lesnar,
    4. Bas Rutten,
    5. Randy Couture
    5. Daniel Cormier

For combination of aesthetics and size he's definately up there.

Why do you think it's him that has inspired so many people to start bodybuilding?

    No crew crew.

Because he was in the movies. If he was an ordinary BB, no one would have mentioned him, just as no one mentions Haney.
