Lunges only affecting ride side
hey guys
EDIT: title is supposed to say RIGHT side
so, i just finished my leg workout, did the norm but decided to give BB lunges a go afterwards. I tried them a few monthes ago and it only did anything for my right side, specifically the glutes. so i really studied the form over the past few monthes and tried it with a light weight barbell(95 lbs) tonight. i focused as hard as possible on each step being identical to the last but my right glute is sooo sore and i dont even feel anything in my left, whatsoever. so, anythoughts on this?MMC, form, anything thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks

Are you looking in a mirror? Are you sure your form is the same?

ya, the space in my gym has mirrors available on all walls,.. its basically a 20ft x 80ft room made for stuff like that. i even did it with barefeet just so i could "feel" the weight on each foot more.

could be that the CNS doesnt have as great activation of the left glute over the right.
can you flex both glutes?, both same size? are you getting gains bilaterally? are you getting equal bilateral soreness in both legs? are the rest of your leg muscles bilaterally equal in strength?
if the answers to those questions are yes and
as long as you know the form is correct bilaterally then the soreness may not be an indicator because you are getting gains on both legs.
if no then probably need to do glute activation work for left but its generally done bilaterally.
additional note: it could be due to your normal balance. MOST people tend to carry more weight on one leg then the other, especially if you have a sports background where you didnt have a offseason workout routine. you could be carrying more weight on the right naturally which can possibly cause glute activation issues.
easy way to check your balance is wii fit.
edit: typo meant equal bilateral soreness in both legs. and additional note

Hopefuldo, no i cant flex my left glute near as easily as the right. annnd the right is bigger(this isnt so much about size, its how the glute imbalance affect my big lifts)
i figured even if the MMC isnt the same on each side, as long as each rep was identical it would be worked the same. but then after my workout where my right side felt extremely worked i decided against that.
i was considering just doing lunges for the left side. any thoughts on this?

Have you had any nerve damage in the past? Are their any odd muscles on your left side that are sore from the lunges that don't match the right side? Does it feel like you're doing them right?

not that i know of
and no, i dont feel it anywhere in my left side:S...which doesnt make sense either because my right side is much stronger.
and yes, i feel like im in total control(like i said, i used a weight i could do for a lot of reps)

imo doing them just for the left side isnt a good idea.
what i would try first is to take a week of legs next week and instead do JUST lunges on both sides. See where you feel soreness. if you are getting more soreness in the hams/quads of the left side then you have activation issues most likely.
EDIT:
right side is much stronger? if its a little bit stronger then i would consider trying to max out more on the left then the right but dont stop working the right, just go a little lighter and focus more on the left until it catches up to speed.
if its significant then i would do just left side for a while.
