Connecting with People
Hey guys I was looking for some help making friends. Now, recently I've worked on my confidence and my ability to hold conversations because I used to be very shy and quiet. I have the confidence to make new friends and can meet people but there is fakeness in my conversations. I often find that I'm not interested in people even though I want to be.
How do I get myself genuinely interested in people so I can make friends and have better conversations? (yes, very self centered and I want to move beyond that now)

You don't need to be the world's friend. Just be yourself.

Well I always feel like I'm on a self serving agenda and people can sense that in my conversations. I think I took on this belief that I didn't care about people because I used to be shy and didn't have the confidence to talk to people.
Now I want to move beyond this but I'm having trouble

You're detached from the rest of humanity -- a lot of people grow up this way, increasingly so in the last few generations. If you only ever interact with people on a superficial level, you have no conception of their character, their will, motivations, or intentions.
You need to interact with someone on a deeper level, in a relationship based on mutual honesty and friendship. Realize that the world is filled with billions of people, to consider yourself separate from the species is absurd. There is no real individual in the end anyhow, as you grow older you'll see even your best and worst characteristics mirrored in other people, a single person is only a facet on the gem of humanity. Or a dingleberry on the ******* of the universe, depending on how you look at things .
