Is it realistic? Seems like dropping weights from overhead would be a big no no.

It's a big no-no. You have to lift within yourself at a commercial gym. See my YouTube vids for my own Olympic lifting at a commercial gym odyssey.
Or since you live in Philadelphia, join IronSport, since it's cheaper and better than every other gym in the area, and has 2 Olympic lifting platforms.
IronSport Gym in Glenolden, PA
It's really easy to get to by commuter rail. It takes like 10 minutes from University City.

such i've learned that commercial gyms oly lifting is unrealistic.. i started oly lifting at school where they have 4 platforms and bumper plates.. and i can basically do whatever i want and no one cares..
at my commercial gym back home.. im always careful to not drop anything..so thus maxing out is challenging.. lolNJ CREW - 908/973

Yeah I've been bitched at a commercial gym for lifting Oly there. Not by the gym owners and managers but fellow lifter. I still do it anyways tho. Performing a snatch is hard, but clean and jerks are easy.
I might just go to another gym sometimes when I want to lift oly but the ones I want to go to are too far.A hit was sent, from the President, to raid your residence /

doesnt LA Fitness use bumper plates? I'm pretty sure they do, when I went there one of the PT's was teaching his clients the snatch and had her using chalk and everything
My rec center would more than likely be dangerous to max out in but ill still do the lifts regardless until they tell me other wise.Last edited by LiftHeavy85; 07-25-2009 at 03:05 AM.
