College Wrestling - questions ! ! ! !

hey folks!

so decided to go back to school to learn some spanish but wanted to take a sports class, though always wanted to take wrestling in high school i was too much of a whimp to push myself forward.

since then been training in muay thai, judo, and some basics in bjj.

Found wrestling at the schoool i just applied to mt. sac college in the city of walnut california.

any tips or any kind of help would be great , if anyone is from wrestling and went to mma was it helpful or would i kind of be back tracking? not that wrestling is bad but just so many rules and seems like lots of grappling tactics from mma doesnt work.

wrestling still highly recommended? or just stick to all around mma training?

thanks!

any help would be great!

I would HIGHLY recommend trying out wrestling if you want to improve your mma. Wrestling is one one the most underrated aspects of mma. It is easy to go from wrestling to mma but a little harder to go from mma to wrestling. you'll see, there will be a lot of habits you'll have to break (like going to your back)

re wrestling

wrestling is one of the best bases to use in MMA. If you have a great shoot or great takedown defense you are going to do good in MMA. With out it you better be great off your back !

Do it. If your school is doing it properly, it will be one of the most challenging things you have ever done.

Wrestling is very fundamental for MMA. If you've ever seen Kazushi Sakuraba back in his Pride days, his single leg takedown was unbelievable. No one could stop it.

Definitely go for the wrestling. My students with wrestling backgrounds pick up the bjj alot faster that any other students. Plus a good wrestling background is very hard for a bjj guy to beat.
