so right now im 5'10" 200 lbs at 16% body fat. what would be a good weight to bulk up to then cut down to my ideal weight of 200 lbs at 8-10%?

Depends on whether you plan on sticking at 16% body fat while you bulk or not. Since your LBM is 168, that'd mean roughly gaining ~15lbs of lean muscle to get from 200 and 16% bf to 200 with 8-10% bf. However much fat comes with the bulk depends on your diet. If you stick with 16%, you'd want to aim for around 220-230lbs before cutting.

(Hopefully the math on all that is right. )

16% is pretty high.especially for such a serious goal. Cut to 10%, become disciplined.. and your journey will be a lot easier. Then cleanbulk. If you continue bulking (easy route), I guarantee you won't get back down to 10% ever. It's going to be hard to shred that extra fat considering you'll increase from 16%.

^^^ Its easy to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time...If you know what your doing. You obviously wont gain it as fast as if you are eating like a pig but it will still be pretty good.

I would say clean bulk to around 225-230 and then start cutting.

You can I have similar goals.

Blue gene helped me immensenly in losing bf% while keeping/gaining muscle. Went from 220 @ 15-16% to 220 @ 12% in the two month cycle.

I agree with this. Lean out, and then clean bulk. Do both phases slowly, so you don't lose much muscle during the cut, and so you don't gain much fat during the bulk.

That's my plan right now; I'm 210 at 14%, and I'd like to be 200-205 at 10%. I'm trying to slowly decrease the fat, while still progressing in the gym and making sure I get my protein. Recently, I haven't been losing any weight, but I can tell from the mirror that my fat layer is shrinking and I'm gaining muscle mass. If that keeps up, I'll eventually reach my goal without having to "bulk".

In my opinion, patience is the key. The "fast" way to do it is to bulk and cut, but then the results can be disappointing, if you find you gained 30 pounds but only 15 of them were muscle, and then you lost the 30 pounds and 10 of those were muscle, in the end you went on a huge rollercoaster ride that probably took a lot of hard work and discipline, and only converted 5 pounds from fat to muscle. Doing it the slow way without the rollercoaster means very very gradual results, but you're making positive progress the whole way. You don't have to worry whether the muscle you're putting on is going to survive the cutting process, and you don't have to get fatter at any point.

Andrew, this to me makes the most sense. I am 19 yrs old, currently at 198 lbs and 16% body fat. Im not sure of my past body fat percentage but i used to weigh in at 230 and lets just say i wasn't to active, maybe some high school football but my eating habbits were horrible! I started training almost 3 years ago. For the first, i don't know, 6 months i wanna say, all i did was run almost everyday for 20 min and i also did a little weight training but nothing special. I lost weight but i still didn't look the way i wanted to look. My stomach was flabby and i hated it! Later on i got a gym membership and began to weight train a lot more. Ever since then it's become a lifestyle. Sometimes i slip and fall (figuratively speaking) but i always get back on it even harder! Now my goal is to weigh in at 200-205 lbs with 10 % body fat. I spend 45 min at the gym around 5 days a week 15 min cardio and i add as much intensity as i can. It's important to make each and every moment you spend training as intense as possible. That's where the results come in plus a fair or even strict diet. Took me a while to realize it but when i did, boy did it work. Patience is key when it comes to this and any fitness goals at that. So good luck to all of you!
