Oatmeal question
hey guys,
i just started using oatmeal in my diet (looking off a sample diet plan) and the plan reads for 1 cup of oatmeal (bulking it reads for 2 cups). anyways, does this mean 1 cup before cooked or what? i was at my folks house and they always have cooked oatmeal in the fridge that just needs to be warmed up. so i took 1/2 cup heated it up, added some honey and ate. is that a geniune 1/2 cup or more or less? it took me forever to eat that and it looked like a pretty good chunk of food.
thanks for the help.

if you look at the totals on the "magazine type bulk plans" you will see that each cup in reality is equivalent to 1/2 cup or roughly 27g of carbs, so 2 cups would be 2 1/2 cups or 54g carbs.

No idea, my man. I have no trouble eating 3 cups, let alone 1/2 cup.

I don't use PB everytime. Usually all I need is cinnamon/Truvia/Walden Farms syrup. I like oatmeal!

well im just trying to cut out eating so much bread, and instead of eating few pieces of toast with my eggs in the morning, i decided to switch over to oatmeal instead. anyways, hopefully it gets easier. for some reason i feel like bread makes me soft/fat. so maybe the oatmeal will change that, who knows.

it took you a long time to eat 1/2 a cup??
heres the important part (these are uncooked):
1/2cup=27g carbohydrate
1 cup=54g

It could be in your head, or you could just not handle wheat very well. Either way, I'd look into Ezekiel Bread.

i dont know. i mean i ate it, just took me a while.
maybe im describing it wrong. my folks cook a ton of steelcut (i think) oats in a big pot on stove. then they put it in the fridge. i took it out of fridge, measured 1/2 cup, added water and honey. since they already have it prepped and in the fridge, how much should i eat then? full 1 cup?

Try granola, it's a heck of alot more dense than oatmeal... so you can eat 1/4 cup dry for the same amount of calories. Also, you may have struggled with the oatmeal since hot foods/beverages tend to fill you up faster.

i dont have a small appetite, i get hungry all the time. its just when i do eat, i get full somewhat fast. if its pizza or burgers or pasta, i can eat a pretty good amount, but i get full fast. let me put it this way, i can go to red robin, get that double burger and 2 things of fries and eat it just fine. i just feel horrible afterwards.
maybe it was just the oatmeal or something. also i had 3 eggs with it as well, so it wasnt like it was the only thing i ate.
its not like i dont eat. i just probably could afford to eat more.

OP, you ever tried to cook it with very little water and for a shorter amount of time? This way it feels like there's less volume, even if it's the same calorie content. Personally, I like putting a bunch of water in there and cooking it longer so it fluffs up.
You could also try this: Throw some egg whites and whey (I love Xtreme Formulations Chocolate) in there, then cook it up. It ends up almost like paste, but it may be easier to get down, even if you're only fooling yourself into thinking it's less food.
