if the spotter touches the bar the lift is negated.

as far as im concerned i would say this was a fail from the start. his hands never left the bar. if the spotter touches the bar at all, i consider it a missed lift...simple really.

its not at a competition so thats not really concerning me, i guess the video quality isnt much help either i'll just attempt it again without help other than getting off the rack and racking the bar

as to your question...there is absolutely no way to tell "how much" your spotter is taking off. not from a video, not from if we were there.
that is why if the spotter touches the bar it is a missed lift. no matter what.

on the plus side based on you and your buddies training id say this is the only lower body work you get will ever do (deadlifts) so go heavier and switch to an over under grip it will help
hell just get some atp straps theyll hold up to any weights your friend could ever try to bench
^^hmm potential sig?!?!

What is your best clean bench? I have a feeling it is nowhere near 280.

i'm not really a fan of how they spot since they constantly have their hands on the bar so i honestly have no clue i have a feeling its about 240 245 somthing in that range touch and go, probably about 225 with a pause

A good spotter is worth their weight in saturated fat and protein enriched hamburgers!
Tell your spotter to help you unrack and bring the weight into starting position and then back off! Don't touch it unless I say so or unless it starts descending.
If they touch it, then give them a spanking for not following directions!

Like many have mentioned the spotter had his hands in the bar the whole time means its a no lift. Whether or not he helped with 1lb or a hundred. (looks to me its closer to the 100 than the 1).
The video is pretty bad quality and hard to tell if your setup and technique is any good, sorry.
Also you should talk to your spotter about wearing a belt when doing heavy deadlifts. I know its a personal preference but he should look into it
There is no such thing as 'strong enough'

As someone who is around your bodyweight range, i will try to give some hopefully applicable opinions.
Very good effort. An actual 285 bench press at 125 would fetch you certain records.
However as you know it yourself, currently you need a spotter's great help to lift it.
I will share one thing. Years ago, I used to bench press with a spotter lifting the bar slightly together with me. After heavy sets, I would immediately sit up and ask the spotter anxiously "How much did you help?" All my spotters within a one year period in 2005 (I had around 5 different spotters throughout that one year of training) all gave me a similar answer "I only applied very minimal assistance. Maybe only 5kg of help". That gave me a reassurance that I am actually bench pressing the weights by myself.
Little did I know, my ego was going to suffer a lot. As time went by, I started to question why my bench press gains were arriving in terms of 10 pounds per week. I decided to bench press by myself with no spotter for once. And hell...it was extremely difficult to bench press my usual warm up weights with no spotter...all the stabilisation issues, all the fear factors of dropping the weight on myself, all the confidence-killer-thoughts about how-am-i-gonna-bench-without-a-guardian-hand-under-the-bar....all these problems started to kick in and I knew I was doomed. I had to start over again. Get into the groove again.
The fact is, if someone is helping you, everything is an illusion, period. I used to think I was pushing most of the weight by myself and the spotter was lifting only 1%, but it was wrong. All my spotters remarked that they barely assisted, but those "bare assistance from spotters" always magically help us lift much more. The spotter may be curling 30 pounds up for you but he thinks he assisted by only 5 pounds because it was effortless.
Friend, try to forget that you ever tried this 285 set. Furthermore, try to forget guessing how much the spotter was helping. No one will know. Try to treat this as an invalid lift and erase it. From now, try to do all benching without the spotter helping. Tell them, if they wish the best for you, to keep their freaking hands away from the bar after helping you lift-off.
Clean bench press reps is the first way to go. You have the strength, it is impressive. As magical as the spotter's assistance was, your strength definitely had a major part to play in the completion of the above 2X bodyweight bench press. But start performing clean reps. Nothing is more essential than this right now. Add some pauses here and there.
Wouldn't it be superior to know you lifted 285 cleanly, than having to guess how much percentage of it you lifted and how much the spotter helped? I truly believe you have a good base strength. Utilise your strength and start on the actual route to true bench press strength. Those gains will soar legitimately back to 285 and beyond.
Finally, in my opinion a spotter's help gets amplified much more for a very light lifter. Training a lift cleanly is real important for you.

If you "think" your max is 240, wtf are you doing with 280 on the bar?
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

exactly!

well, err, try it?
tips:
-put adolescent ego aside
-stop thinking there is something special about benching alot at 125lbs
-eat alot more than you currently do
-read about tried and true strength routines
-apply when you have read about tried and true strength routines
-???
-profit

what exactly was that? The spotter looked like he was
struggling more than you were. I can't imagine you'd get
240 up with no help. If we're all wrong, load up the 240 and
post the vid but it doesn't look possible, not from that vid.

My favourite thing about this lift is that it was RAW. But you spelt RAW wrong in the thread title - if you don't capitalise it, how will everyone know that you're much cooler than bench shirt cheaters?
