I'm looking to start taking fish oils for general health. There seems to be so many brands and each claim to be really great. I have read that pharmaceutical grade is the best, but I have no idea of what to get and where. A good brand available in a brick and mortar store would be best for me. Let me know if you can recommend something.

I have been using these:

really happy with it.
The best brand is probably Carlson. Its not sold here but you can pick it up at a lot of brick and mortars. You can get it in liquid form as well which some people like and some don't. Its a little pricier but you get what you pay for.Check the log bro:

"I've been using it for about three months my joints feel better and my cholesterol dropped a few points."
That could easily be a placebo effect. Does anyone have any solid reasons as to why they prefer the brands mentioned here? it seems like people prefer the brand they bought without any real information to back it up. Is krill oil better than fish oil? How do I find pharma grade stuff in a brick and mortar store and what store? Thanks.

i have been using carlsons lemon fish oil at three or four tablespoons a day for the past week. I read alot on the topic and this product is one of the better ones out there. I swear I look leaner this weeks because of it. I'm following charles poliquin protocol. He calls for super high doses. I'll keep you guys posted.

Go to weknowomegas.com They review and list ALL omega products out there. Artic Essentials daily dose has a total of 1600mg for Omega3 plus the best in microfiltration processing to clean out Mercury toxins. I will say the NOW ultra omega is a better price BUT their processing lags.

According to research, using Plant based Omega 3-6-9- oil is actually better than fish oils and helps more with protein absorption.

I like the Carlson's lemon flavored liquid. It doesn't taste or smell fishy at all which is exactly what you are looking for when trying to find a top quality oil. I've had capsules break in the other "top" brands and the whole container smells disgusting for the duration of the bottle. I need to have a capsule form on hand as well for my dosage during work hours and so far NOW Ultra has been pretty good. It doesn't smell at all, however, I have read of people whom have had a pill break and it wasn't pleasant.
I just picked up a bottle of Natural Factors which has a label claim of "pharmaceutical grade" and is very well reviewed on one of my other favorite supp sites. I haven't opened it yet though. It does have a decent EPA/DHA count per pill (400/200) as well. It's backed by Dr. Michael Murray who is apparently pretty popular in the natural scene and it's really well priced.
