So I start community college in september (serious) (CC jokes acceptable)
Misc, I am proud.
I entered the work force out of high school, and it's fairly ****ty. My boss told me we're gonna be slow this winter, so I figured I have to do something with my life and registered for community college this fall. I'm just taking some basic classes to get my credits up until I figure out what I want to major in. I'm happy that I have decided to continue my education, although I am a little nervous. I was never a school person, I never graduated high school. I do feel that I have matured since then though, and I will be able to apply myself much better.
A lot of people told me that community college is high school part 2. Others love it. Any miscers been to community college? If so, how do/did you like it?

Sucks. I'd say only 25% of the people there are there to save money. The other 75% are there because they are dumb as rocks. Seriously be prepared to set the curve in all your classes if you got higher than a 3.5 GPA in HS.
Most of the girls are either hot and stupid as ****. Or trashy and look like they went through every highschool dude 3 times.
Classes suck. There will be several morons who will ask 100 questions every session. Due to this, you will only make it half way to where you are suppose to be at the end of the class term.

lol, this is almost exactly what I have heard from others.
Are the classes like high school size? (20-25 people) Or are they bigger?

I hate it. My GPA should be around a 3.4-3.5. But I have failed math twice and it RAPED my gpa to a 2.3. It's fuking terrible. I will rock out an english essay and get an A cause I love reading and writing, but I will fail any stupid math. Oh well, my grades are all B's a few C's and F's for math. It's upsetting.
Community College is god awful. The commute, the people, the school, it all sucks. I probably won't get out till year 3.

I liked my community college. But then again, I think the one I went to is ranked like top 10 in the nation or some sh.it. There was talk of turning it into a 4-year college a while back. Dunno why that fell thru.
I found the profs at the CC to be better than the profs at the Uni I ended up getting my bachelors from. CC profs teach because they want to teach. Often times, Uni profs teach because they have to teach.

It's a great place to master hacky sack.
I see you are only 20. I will revive this thread when you are 30 and a junior with an undeclared major.

good luck OP. I hear CC is easier then a 4 year school but of course thats no reason to slack off. It should be good for getting back in the 'academic groove'.

I went to a CC, at first I hated it but I grew up and figured out that its actually really simple.
You prob will only get out of it what you put into it. No one holds your hand.
To be honest, CC gets a bad reputation mostly because of the student body. Not because of the Professors or Curriculum.(sp?)
Good Luck brah.

I think those two rumors are used a lot by CC to make themselves feel more prestiges.

It's a start. Stick with it and transfer to a 4 year uni as fast as possible. I've got to a far amount of colleges (being in the military and having to move around the country) and some of my instructors at CC's were better than some of the teachers I had at 4 year universities. It's just the annoying students that make it suck just a bit more.

Perhaps. It was in one of those college ranking listings, except for CCs kind of like the one U.S. News puts out for 4-year unis. Probably doesn't mean sh.it, though, because the rankings in U.S. News doesn't really mean sh.it either.
However I can definitely say the quality of education at the CC I went to was just as good or better than the two state 4-year unis I've attended.

I'm 25 and I'll be going back to CC in the winter for similar reasons. My current job's industry is going to **** so I'd like to go to school now while I'm single no kids and have decent money saved in the bank.
CC sucks but it's cheap and if you handle your **** you will come out on top in the end. Just transfer out ASAP and don't fail.

What kind of work do you do? I'm in masonry, and the winter time is just dead.

I truly enjoyed mine a lot, it was a great experience. Not only did I save an extraordinary amount of money, but it really helped me get acquainted with college (prepare for uni). The majority of my teachers were awesome, you could tell they wanted to be there and help you learn, not just there because they had to or for the money.
As far as my experience, it wasn't like most students there were dumb, or "succumbed to a cc". There were a lot of very bright kids there, just doing what they need to in order to transfer out and save themselves (or parents) a ton of dough. It's a lot more personal at a cc (you don't have lectures with 200+ people like at a uni), and the teachers (at least mine) went out of their way to get to know their classmates (weren't more than 20 kids an any of my classes). Overall, it was a win win decision.

this is exactly how my cc is. All the hot girls cept for 1 were dumb as ****. This one chick in my class was there to save money(though her family is pretty wealthy and she did go to Western the year before..so idk) and she would always compare me to her bf..**** was annoying.

Good luck bro... I'm at CC right now, it sucks, but this is what we get for not listening to our teachers when they told us to perform well to get into a good college.
