No particular order really. I'm planning on using trim pieces around the edges, so that won't be a problem. Just haven't decided on a ceiling color, so it hasn't gotten done.
But ya, there will be nice trim to cover up and painting errors

LOL. My workout yesterday was to "Pumping Iron" I always skip the whole "Feels Like Cumming" part on acount of my neighbors, though it is a 17yld pregnant girl and her single mother with two boyfriends LOL. I guess they would not mind.
My fight events are my favorite to workout to though. I have over 80 mostly PRIDE and UFC but Kickboxing and a bunck of small show ones too. Hell, I even have Don "the Dragon" Wilsons comeback fight!
Sorry for the highjack. Looking good. mine is one half painted wall, then I just threw all the equipment in because I could not wait. LOL But it is a brick wall and I use chalk to write out my current weights and goals.
I sell home and commercial fitness equipment, so if you have questions on equipment PM me and I will help.

Usually, yes. To avoid getting drips on the wall paint, especially if a different color.

Next steps involve installing a dark blue stripe at the transition from turqoise to grey. Also, setting up the stereo system, which consists of a DVD/MP3 Player with a subwoofer, center channel speaker, and 4 surround speakers.
The plan is to create an amped atmoshphere that just screams workout! In the future, we plan on a tv as well, because working out to Pumping Iron will be unbeatable!
Rubber flooring is in the works, which will be black, and we are still deciding on a ceiling color. Something light like a very very light grey is most likely going to win out.
So, until further updates.........
Good luck with the gym! What's the plan for the flooring? Are you getting rubber stall mats, or actually getting rubber flooring?

It looks like his garage so 20' x 20' would be about right.

I would strongly suggest the ceiling be white for two reasons:
1. It reflects light and keeps the place relatively bright. Any other color will really darken the room, and make it a bit more depressing and less likely to "motivate".
2. Any color other than white will look weird. Look around at people's ceilings in their homes and businesses and commercial gyms. Always white. You may have a strange sense of unease if you have, say, a black, blue or grey ceiling. Trust me, I've tried it. However what you can do is put an accent strip or two across the ceiling, then follow it down the wall, for instance. That can give your view while bench pressing a bit more zing.

i'm in on this- i always paint my ceilings white too. when i bought my house, every room had colored ceilings- the ceiling, walls, and trim were the same color. it was freaking terrible!
i don't even like accent stripes, just white (on ceilings).

Primer? Two tone? A stripe? You must watch a lot of home improvement shows.
Put a couple 8' flourescent light fixtures in there. I have 2 in my garage and it lights it up nicely.

Nice start!! Look forward to seeing pics when you're done.
I see you live in the great cold north - are you going to install some sort of HVAC system?

If needed, maybe. There hasn't been any problems with things in the garage in previous years though. The house is 5 years old, so we'll take any problems as they come. Heating will be necessary in the winter, but the garage stays cool in the summer. Nothing that a good fan can't handle.

Keep up the good work!

Gotta stick with white because of the brightness factor. White coupled with those newer style natural lighting light bulbs and it should really shine in there. Getting those blues reflecting that light will really add to the refreshing look I'm going for.
I would like to paint a saying on the wall near the ceiling as well "Discipline is Freedom"

No more pics right now.....haha. There is nothing else to show. After I paint the ceiling, I'll be installing a surround speaker in each corner, and a center channel somewhere as well, along with a sub in a corner to complete the stereo setup.
As far as equipment, I'm picking up a leg press/hacksquat on Saturday. So that is my first piece. I'm also on the hunt for a decline crunch bench, a decline/flat/incline bench, a full power cage, 5-100 pound dumbbells, and I'll be building a deadlift platform as well.

awesome deal on those dumbbells! for paint, i'd recommend rustoleum "hammered" in silver. it will be a little lighter in color than those were when new, but it'll have a good texture. even if you don't want them silver, check out the hammered finish paint.

Sounds like something I need to check out. Im thinking either paint or powdercoat. Powdercoat is more spendy, but I want a professional look as well.
