Chess - I haven't played in years, but would say I'm an "average" player.
Risk
Axis and Allies
Shogun
Conquest of the Empire
Warhammer 40k (tabletop not video)
I love all those games, but I think Risk is my favorite. Have you ever played the "futuristic" version where after you take over a certain number of Earth countries, you can take over the moon as well?
Oh, wait. I've never played Shogun, but it sounds right up my alley.

Yep, I play now and then. I taught it to my son, who was 7 at the time.
Sometimes he asks me to play, which is pretty cool.(He's very smart)
One night I really wasn't in the mood though, so I made a real short game out of it.
If you know how to do the 4 move checkmate, using your Queen and Bishop, and your opponent is a novice, you can win the game in just.. well, 4 moves. He was stunned..and I was free.. lol

Yeah, my dad used to pull that on me, too. My son doesn't fall for it. LOL

Love Risk, I might just have to go out and buy it again.

I actually HAVE the moon version, but haven't ever played it. I purchased it while living "in the boonies" while my ex was getting her degree. And of course she wouldn't ever play it with me. (that bitch).
Shogun was released in the mid 80's, and then since there weren't enough geeks purchasing it, it went out of print. It was re-released in the 90's under the title of Samurai Swords. Brings back good memories just thinking about it.

Yeah, those were some good times, spending an entire weekend with my buddies playing those strategy games and getting to complete almost one whole turn. LOL

I absolutely SUCK at volleyball but I LOVE playing it. I also like playing texas hold'em but I'm pretty bad as well.. my poker faces suck and I bluff and raise at totally inopportune times.

Love chess...with the right partner. Used to love Risk....I was like Adolph...I would think the world is MINE and all of the sudden I'm holed up in Austrailia! Golf is what I love to play but suck at!
I hate board games! LOL Chess is awfully demanding. I like to visit when I'm around people. Shooting the bull and talking your head off aren't conducive to a good chess match. We used to play dominoes as a family years ago. My Dad knew what everyone had in their hand in a matter of minutes, literally. He grew up a kid playing partner dominoes with all the old men in front of the barbershop. Now a good game of spades or hearts, better yet, canasta, and I can go for hours!
My 3 favorite game (this is at least 100 year old joke, my grandpa told me it)
Checker, chess and poker.

I enjoy games a great deal. Chess, Mastermind, Othello, Pente, Backgammon, absolutely love to play Risk........... but the King of all games is Stratego. I absolutely love it but rarely get to play it anymore........... I've actually never lost a game. As kids we played it alot and I played it in college until I ran out of folks willing to play me. I should see if my son is willing to play me now that he's older.......... Used to let him and my Dad play as a team against me....... my Dad was super competitive and he finally said no more!
If you've never played Stratego, give it a whirl!! It's more than a strategy game though it requires a great deal of memorization and keeping track of multiple moving pieces........

Suck at basketball. This I like. Learning how to use my new-found strength to bull people in the lane.
Suck at backgammon, but like it.
Good at Risk. Most people won't play that with me anymore.
Stratego was a lot of fun. Remember playing that a bunch growing up. Another fun one is Diplomacy, but don't play it with people you like, or if you do, make sure you like them _a lot_, because this game can be a friend-killer. (It should be called "Backstabber" instead of Diplomacy. Great f'ing game.)
My 3 favorite game (this is at least 100 year old joke, my grandpa told me it)
Checker, chess and poker.
Groan!!!
I love chess but I suck so bad. I have a chess computer, and it kicks my ass even on easy, I think I've beaten it twice and both times I celebrated like crazy. Against real players I'm even worse.
Diplomacy was fun except we had this one guy who, no matter what, would always start popping nukes.

I'm decent at chess, but up against anyone who really knows how to play....I can only aggravate them by prolonging their inevitable victory . And yeah, it's too long and I don't make time for it.
Ever hear of Boggle? I've never been beaten by anyone....since around 1983 when I first got the game . I also ranked in the top 10 backgammon players in the world (gaming site, several years ago) and beat the #1 ranked. An old college roommate taught this game back around 78'. 2000 yr old game....kinda cool.
I love games, but don't take time to play these days. It's been a tradition that when visiting my folks with my kids this past decade or so, that we play a game almost every night while there. We played Taboo for the first time when visiting them last week. Fun game.
And of course, I love cards; wist, spades, gin....

I am terrible at chess. It drives me crazy when i play someone and they take forever like they are doing brain surgery or something.
I wonder how a chess master would deal with someone who is such an erratic and poor player like i am. Those guys are used to playing people of their own level and they have certain moves that they do and expect a certain counter move. It would probably pissed them off to no end playing me and my haphazard way.
My game is Skee Ball. I got a perfect game once, that 9 straight 50's. That was on the old scholl 14 foot skee ball alley as well.
I bought a pool table recently and have been playing some 9 ball. I suck at it but at least I can get some of the balls in.
