Self regulation and 3rd party orgs can easily confirm quality controls. The gov is not needed here or in most aspects of our lives. If you have a concern about a product or a company ask them for proof or test it yourself. Share your results and if they are bogus they will not stay in business long plus lawsuit heaven for you.

The same reason divorces are so expensive....it's worth it.
For everybody who doesn't like Waxman, let me ask you this: Do you like your generic prescription drugs and their cost compared to brand name? Guess who was one of the men responsible for generics being introduced?
Google "Waxman-Hatch Act""Don't compare yourself to others, but to what you have been." - dvsness.
"...take whatever you want it's your body. Just don't come crying back because you've grown a set of tits and need to take viagra to get a hard on." ------- odw777
I went to a club last night. They played The twist, I did the twist. They played Jump, I jumped. They played "Come on Eileen"...I got kicked out.

There are already plenty of rules and regulations regarding food safety, and ways to follow up on and enforce them. A bill like this merely pretends to remedy a problem that doesn't actually exist, because those things are already in place, rather than solve the real problems. It's a shame that current procedure isn't always followed, or worse yet, blatantly ignored to save money. This bill plays on the ignorance of the people in order to increase the power of government to suit the special interests (namely, pharmaceuticals) that line the pockets of many in our government.
Ugh.
And then there's the whole thing about giving the government more power to make ill-advised decisions to "protect" idiots...Last edited by superhombre2k; 07-09-2009 at 04:24 AM.

I've sent something to my congressmen, as I enjoy my supplements and don't think this is necessary considering the already vast jurisdiction of the FDA. However, I doubt an overreaching bill like this will pass. In many cases, Congress will put up an intentionally unconstitutional bill (to appease special interests) knowing that courts will strike them down later. A lot of blame going on in this thread, like the Obama admin is hellbent on big government. Realize that if they had stepped into an environment where the economy, health care and energy were running smoothly, it would most likely be a different scenario.
As to the above quote, I agree in some respects, but I get weary of people incessantly touting the "free market" like it's an infallible argument. The recent financial cataclysm happened because firms violated the most basic premise of free market capitalism- i.e. having the enlightened self interest to monitor your own risk exposure.
Lets all keep an eye on this and be vigilant, but the end of the world fearmongering is a bit over the top.

Bump. This seriously should be stickied!
I received two emails back. One email was from one of my representatives that I got an email shortly after sending out the email saying that it did not make it into his inbox. But sure enough, his either automated email or pre-written emails concerning this matter was sent back to me. That's funny. The other email was basically saying that this was necessary and he was proud of it. Go figure living in Massachusetts .
Here is the believed automated email:
Thank you for your email. Please know that I appreciate you taking the time to share your views on this important issue. As always, I will keep your comments and concerns in mind as this issue continues to develop in the 111th Congress.
Please note that if this is an emergency or a time-sensitive issue, please contact my Boston office at ***-***-****, and a member of my staff would be happy to help you.
Again, thank you for your email. Please don't hesitate to contact me in the future regarding this or any other issue.
And here is the second email:
Thank you for your letter on recent safety recalls of tainted food and consumer goods. I share your concerns and I appreciate this opportunity to respond.
It is the responsibility of the Food and Drug Administration to inspect and safeguard the nation's food supply, in order to prevent outbreaks of food-based illnesses and contain such outbreaks when they do occur.
To help the FDA accomplish these goals, the Senate has passed several measures to reinforce and improve the FDA, and I am proud to have been a sponsor of the FDA Revitalization Act, which strengthens the FDA's ability to inspect food and expand its notification process so that the public can learn sooner about outbreaks and recalls sooner.
Our people expect and deserve that their food supply and consumer products are safe. I strongly support the agencies responsible for inspecting food and goods, and when necessary, and I'm doing all I can to see that they have the authority and support they need to protect the American public.
Thank you for contacting me on this important subject.
God help us all.

none of the above. Just trying to get everyone all pissed off for nothing.
1 I am in a different country, and 2 I cannot remember the percentage now but a LOW percentage of your country (USA) can even take the time to vote for a presidential election, is it a surprise that things like this make to the fda and get approved.
If i didn't have to go on tours I would have more.PreSurge = Pre WO.
