Hey everyone I was doing a search on building muscle for playing goalie and I also am in volleyball so I will be quite active from now on. I am 17 just about 18 and I am doing some lifting and running to get into shape. I am 5'11" and around 140 lbs. I would like to get my new workout to work for the fullest so I want to know if I can use something to enhance the muscle building. I only want to go on creatine or some type of protein and nothing bad like steroids because I dont want to hurt my body at my young age, but I just want to help build some muscle. From the reading that I did, I was thinking to pick up some whey protein or some type of creatine to try, but I am not familar on the best type or what brands to look out for? I was doing a little bit of research and saw some things about Purple K. Has anyone ever used that or have heard about things better then this? I mainly do lifting with free weights, squats, bench, military press, and conditioning drills. Do you guys recommend something else or have any tips. I am starting with eating healthier than I already am and I am will to do whatever it takes so if you guys could help me out I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,
Jeff

Any jug of whey protein would be fine, ON 100% whey is popular, I would just go with a bulk creatine mono or CEE

Purple K is Kre-Alkalyn creatine and yes it works nicely and isn't too pricey for beginners.
Protein wise, you want to drink a Whey Protein Isolate post workout in water. Every other time of the day, you want a slow digesting protein so you can use a Whey blend like Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard or Dymatize Elite in milk. Or you can fork out a bit more for a blend with casein, like Sustain. You want to take 1/2 dose of Purple K pre-workout, 1/2 post workout. Before bed, drink a protein shake with milk to help at night to stop going catabolic.
Add fish oil and a quality multi-vitamin to your supplements as well.- NOTICE: Not all posts represent my own opinion. I enjoy playing devil's advocate.

At 5' 11" and 140 lbs, you'll probably need to make sure you're get some more complex carbs throughout the day, along with some moderately high glycemic carbs right after your workout along with the whey protein. Eat more protein from whole food sources (chicken, eggs, turkey, lean beef).
Eat, young man, eat!No supplement has the power that is greater than the power of eatin' clean and liftin' hard.

Hey guys thanks for the posts...I was looking for the purple k stuff and the cheapest I could find it is for 29.99. I dont mind paying that, but has anyone found it cheaper somewhere else. Here is a link to that website:
http://store.supplementstogo.com/pubucr100cab.html
And as for the whey protein I was looking at the GNC Pro Performance® 100% Whey Protein - Cookies& Cream
How do you think that sounds guys and is there anything else or anything different from this that you guys recommend or a specific workout routine besides the one listed above? I appreciate the help!

Sorry for the confusion but I was only wondering if there was any creatine good for using that was in the pill form because with the whey protein its already in a powder form so if it was possible that I could get away with using a pill form creatine and then the powder whey protein is what I was looking for to do. Was I able to clear that one up?

Well in pill form, this is cheap and good

But why pills when you can add the 5g powder in your protein shake?- NOTICE: Not all posts represent my own opinion. I enjoy playing devil's advocate.

Say if I bought the powder in both the creatine from online and the whey protein from the gnc store would I be able to mix in both things together in one mix or should it be separated into different drinks at different times? Also, what kinda results will I receive from taking both things and how fast will I see an improvement, but I am in no desperate need to gain mass and strength quick. I just want to eventually gain more muscle.

Hey I know that I won't expect no magic gains like 30lbs or something like that. I just want to put on like 10-15 lbs over a certain time. But my main reason is just to gain muscle strength and I want my muscles to look more full. I am not looking to become no body builder, but I do want to just get some more muscle on me to be stronger and healthier.

Screw GNC they overcharge for everything, any protein is better than none though, even if it comes from GNC. If your only source is GNC... well you gotta do what you gotta do, but I'd reccommend either shopping online or at another supplement supplier, personally I like ON (Optimum Nutrition) 100% Whey Gold Standard its cheap if you don't buy it at GNC (I pay about Half of what GNC charges and thats not even shopping online) and the taste ain't bad either.

Hey guys I have been doing a good amount of research over the past day or so and I believe that I am going to go with using creatine and whey protein to assist me with my goal for gaining muscle and strength. Here are the 2 products that I believe that I am going to use:
100% Whey Protein in the 2 lbs Vanilla Ice Cream or Cookies and Cream
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html
Micronized Creatine Monohydrate
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/sd/creatine.html
If anyone has any other suggestions or tips feel free to say them. Also, with the whey protein is there any flavor that you guys think have the best taste and how is the taste on the creatine? I can't wait to start using this and I really can't wait to see the result that will come from this because I will give it a 100% effort! I am not looking to gain no 20-30 lbs, but my goal is going to be gaining 10-15 lbs and build up my muscle strength. Thanks for all your help!

I was just wondering while I am looking into both products more and more is ..is there any side effects from taking creatine like being bloated or anything like that from this creatine that I would get and would it be better to take a multivitamin instead of creatine because of my age? Also, since I am mixing the two once I buy them what kinda shakes would you recommend like what things should I add to the shake? Sorry for the newbe questions, but I just want to fully understand the things I will be taking.

I haven't used "regular" creatine ( creatine monohydrate ) in years, I've read reports of some people becoming bloated, I don't remember ever experiencing this, lately I've been using creatine ethyl ester ( CEE ) it costs slightly more but absorbs much faster than creatine monohydrate it seems to work just as well for me, a good multi vitamin is a good idea, but is a completely different animal than creatine... actually as young as you are and being a "newbie" you should see some very good gains just by eating a proper diet, get 1 to 1.5g of protein per pound of body weight, lots of slow digesting carbs ( wheat bread, brown rice, yams, etc...) throughout the day and some fast digesting carbs immediately post work out with your protein and creatine, just plain old sugar works well, try to get most of your protein from whole food such as chicken, fish, beef, milk...etc. also like I mentioned earlier I like glutamine with my protein/creatine not a necessity, but something to look into.

I'm a big fan, and I'm sure alot of other guys on here will back me up and say that Prolab creatine is damn near the best, its cheap and effective, and if you're just starting out don't be fooled by products like Cell-Tech and silly ass advertisments and things of that nature, creatine is creatine. I've taken both and the only thing I've noticed is my wallet is a little bit fatter.
Also, ON 100% whey is good stuff. I bet 95% of the people on this board have used it and liked it. Though, I've actually just stopped using 100% Whey about 2 weeks ago, not for any reason I just decided I'd go for a change, and I got Optimum's After Max for my post workout shake, and I really like it, tastes good and does the trick.
Also, I buy all of my supplements online, its much cheaper that way. GNC jacks up the prices like you wouldn't believe.
Pre workout I take Prolab with grape juice

Hey guys, I have been doing some thinking and pricing for these suppliments and I have a few questions. I was wondering what would be more beneficial for me who is going to be 18 in a few weeks to take creatine or a multivitamin along with the whey protein which I already know I will be taking? I would like to know the pros and cons about both if I should go with one or the other or even something else? If you could clear this up it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Costco has prolly the best whey protein by Pro Rated... 6Lbs for only $20 too! But I heard some friends that they changed it to EAS Premium Protein for $27, so maybe they did..
As far as creatine, since you want pills I'd suggest this:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/now/crea.html
or if you do have the money:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/gn/sizetabs.html
or:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/clabs/green.html
I'm almost in the same category as you, except I haven't figured out which powder'd creatine to get.. Cell Tech or SizeOn. The costco protein I have works great, and I'm going to order the GNC MM Sport Multi to go with my puritanspride vitamins:
Here's the MultiVitamins I suggested:

Trying to make up my mind between SizeOn and Cell Tech:
I've read this about Cell Tech, it seems amazine:

yet people still keep voting for SizeOn, so I don't know which is better. Here's my polls:

How many Lbs a week on average does SizeOn give... the most on Cell Tech has been 7Lbs in 7Days, I bet that has only been one person with perfect diet and extreme excercising, you never know that stuff seems pretty good. I have a friend that's on it, and he's huge he says he's on a month now and he's gained 17.5Lbs. He's telling me to get it, but I keep hearing from all of you to get SizeOn.. It's such a tough decision.
