Another questions on lateral raises (number of sets, start of the motion, etc...)

Hi everybody,

First at all, i'm sorry to open again a topic on lateral raise but since i've just started back weight lifting (on advice of my physician) about one month ago after years of shoulder's pain i am very carefull and so i ask many questions !

So i just want to know if doing 6 set of 15reps of lateral raise (2 with the start of the motion in the back, 2 with start in the front, 2 "classical" on side) with relatively light weight (working very slowly up to the "burn", especially in the negative phase) in my shoulder routine is a good thing (besides lateral raises i do 4sets of 15 reps of front raises) ?

Do you think i do too much sets or at the contrary that it is well? Also do you think it really bring something to start lateral raises in different positions (in order to hit all the fibers of the external delt) ? is it better to only practise 4 sets of 15 reps of "classical" lateral raise with start on the sides ?

Thank you again for your help since i really want to make my shoulder widens again !

Lower it to 5 sets. If you get less results then go back up to 6 sets. If it still works then try 4 sets.
Another idea is to do 1 set every day.
Or try 6 sets on monday, wednesday and friday then take a week off and let yourself recover. There are plenty of ideas to try. Go through them all and see which ones work for you. Good luck.

Due to fiber composition, high repetitions and volume work well with deltoid isolation movements.

Any other thoughts upon the way to perform an efficient lateral's raise routine ?

Like previously said, the medial delts usually respond well to high reps and volume with lower weight. I've never gone above four sets for lateral raises, but there's no harming in trying six for a few weeks to see how you respond.
