Today is leg day, and usually start it off with barbell squats on the back.
Does doing squats holding the bar in front of you(not sure the name for this) work a different part of the quad? Or whats the deal, was thinking of giving them a try, obviously cant use normal squat weight.
Any comments?

I think anatomically speaking it will work different muscles. Your holding the weight in a different area and the path of the bar and body is slightly different than a regular squat. thus your back/leg/knees will be slightly differently placed....thus putting pressure on different muscle points.

Well, that may be true to a certain extent, but at the end of the day you are carrying a bar held at shoulder level as low as you can go and bringing it back up using your legs. That is a squat.
As for front squats, I know a lot of people use them to help keep strict form as they force you to stay more upright and balance.Student.
